Planet FPL - The Fantasy Football Podcast

Chris Stone joins James to discuss the potential of The Hammers FPL assets and reflect on the Europa Conference League triumph.

But is all well? Since European glory, star man Declan Rice has been sold and no signings have been made. Remarkably there are still question marks hanging over David Moyes’ future…

Can Jarrod Bowen rediscover the form that made his so popular with Fantasy managers two seasons ago? Or could Said Benrahma offer an intriguing and cheaper alternative?

Who’s likely to start upfront? Who’s the best of the 4.5 defenders and could 4.0 Alphonse Areola start in goal?

Gary Robinson joins James to discuss all the latest at Manchester United including key and popular FPL picks Andre Onana, Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

Many FPL managers look like they may go with both Fernandes and Rashford, but if it had to be just one, who’s best?

Is Onana worth the 0.5 saving on Shaw? Or should an alternative defender that should be considered.

Plus, there’s discussion on what impact Onana and new signing Mason Mount are likely to have, there’s thoughts on the likely signature of Rasmus Hojlund, the chances of United making a title challenge and the Podcast begins with a chat about the potential takeover of the club.

It’s been a feature of Planet FPL pre-season content that James has expressed concerns about Wolves ahead of the coming season. On the latest Correspondent Week Podcast Wolves fan Bradley Parker joins James to answer if it’s correct to have concerns and if there’s any Wolves FPL assets managers should consider.

Jose Sa has posted 140+ point seasons in consecutive seasons, can he be considered at 5.0?

The ‘Doc’ Matt Doherty has returned and many paid 6.0 for him three years ago, can he roll back the years and be considered at 4.5?

Who will start up front? Can 5.5 Fabio Silva return from successive loan spells and finally establish himself?

Plus, what do The Fosun owners want to do with the club? Is investment required? Are they restricted by FFP? Is the club for sale? And could manager Julen Lopetegui walk before the season even starts!?

Luton’s Premier League adventure is nearly upon us and Dan Ashby joins James to kick off Correspondent Week Day 3 and discuss The Hatters, their prospects of survival and the enablers who should appeal to FPL managers.

There’s 4.0 defenders, a starting 4.5 midfielder and even potential in 5.0 and 4.5 forwards, but with a Blank in Gameweek 2 it means picking more than one could bring trouble. So who’s best? Is it the well owned Amari’I Bell? Is new loan signing Issa Kabore assured of starts? Can Marvelous Nakamba offer anything more than starting points?

There’s discussion on the likely first choice line-up, why there’s confusion on who may be on penalties, issues in trying to buy a new goalkeeper and where further investment in the squad may be required,

But Luton are working on a shoestring financially in comparison to other Premier League clubs and that’s why finishing above the relegation zone would bea miraculous achievement… but don’t rule them out.

Tom Medd joins James to talk all things Brentford and with an attractive set of opening fixtures there’s plenty to be excited about and attacking assets particularly appeal, but who can step up and reward FPL managers in the Absence of the suspended Ivan Toney?

Intriguingly, the players of interest offensively are all at different price points, with Bryan Mbuemo at 6.5, Yoane Wissa at 6.0, Kevin Schade at 5.5 and as discovered on the Podcast Keane Lewis-Potter shouldn’t be discounted at 5.0 either. But interest remains in investing in another forward; so how much should that play on the minds of FPL managers?

Will new signing Mark Flekken start in goal, with with David Raya likely to depart? But importantly, is he actually any good? Pre-season performances have caused concern, so would it be better to invest in a defender?

And the Podcast begins with discussion on Toney’s suspension.

It’s a Planet FPL debut for new Crystal Palace correspondent Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd as he joins James to give the lowdown on The Eagles, and there are concerns that Palace may be about to have a season where they stand still rather than kick on.

There’s reflection on Patrick Vieira’s dismissal and the improved run under Roy Hodgson, but is it the right call to have then reappointed him on a full-time basis? Could it partly be because Palace haven’t looked like doing much business in the transfer market and that Hodgson remains a safe pair of hands until the man Palace wants is available?

With Wilfried Zaha gone and Michael Olise injured much of the onus will fall on the popular Ebe Eze to provide the attacking output in the season to come, he now looks the clear talisman for FPL and at 6.5 will appeal. But does he need a better support cast to allow him to flourish? Could 19 year-old Brazilian Matheus Franca prove to be the much needed attacking addition that Palace need?

Plus, does the signing of Jefferson Lerma signal a return to a more pragmatic Palace? And does it mean their defensive assets at 4.5 should appeal more?

Jonny Pringle joins James to discuss what we can expect from Manchester City and their FPL assets in the opening weeks of the season and the Podcast begins by reflecting on City’s treble triumph and by asking if City can maintain the motivation to seek more glory.

Are we in a perma-cap phase for Erling Haaland at the season’s beginning? Is there any case to make for FPL managers to go against him?

Hopes are high for Phil Foden but where will he play and for FPL does it matter? Does Jack Grealish offer a more reliable alternative? Is Kevin De Bruyne too expensive for consideration?

Plus, who’s the standout defensive choice? What’s the impact on the team with the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez? And is City’s squad looking a little thin?

Lee Jackson joins James to kick off Correspondent Week Tuesday to discuss Aston Villa who have the addition of European football this season after a great end to the season under Unai Emery and they could now have eyes on the top 6.

There’s discussion on tactics and the importance of Villa’s attacking bias to one specific side of the pitch and how this may impact the likes of new signing Moussa Diaby.

Villa have 6 4.5 defenders, which is best? Ollie Watkins is growing in popularity and with good reason too and there’s an overview of the squad in search of gems and that includes the surprisingly good returns of 5.5 midfielder Douglas Luiz.

On the second Podcast of Correspondent Week James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord to discuss The Reds hopes of getting back in the title picture and across the squad there are plenty of Liverpool assets to consider.

Mo Salah or No Salah is once again a big debate ahead of Gameweek 1, there’s discussion on the pros and cons of The Egyptian King. Is Trent Alexander-Arnold worth spending 8.0 on? Can his teammates help shore up Liverpool’s defence enough to make him worthwhile or will reliability be on his on attacking output?

Plus, who’s likely to lead The Reds attack? What can we expect from new signings Alexis Mac Aliister and Dominik Szoboszlai? Is Andrew Robertson done as an FPL choice? And there’s talk on the evolution of Liverpool, new tactics and lots more…

It’s Planet FPL’s biggest Week of the season as James speaks to all 20 Premier League Correspondents this week across 20 Podcasts to get their view on their clubs and the FPL assets within them ahead of the Gameweek 1 kick off.

First up it’s Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns. Can Forest improve on last season’s 16th place finish or is another battle against relegation likely?

Mark explains why he has fears for Steve Cooper’s future ahead of a daunting opening set of fixtures that includes trips to The Emirates, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and The Etihad in the first 6 gameweeks.

Do those fixtures mean that we should overlook Forest assets?

There’s discussion on the whole squad including key man Morgan Gibbs-White, forward Taiwo Awoniyi and new signing Anthony Elanga. Plus, the positions Forest are looking for additions in, why a 4.0 option could emerge at Forest, concerns over injured defenders and why one Forest player may quickly appeal in FPL – if he leaves the club!
