Planetary Gig Talk

While this podcast is about the power of music, host Jefferson Glassie was talking with his niece Susie Shin at a family event, and they began discussing how the rhythms of riding horses are very therapeutic, healing, and beneficial for humans, in particular those with certain disabilities, illnesses, or other issues. In this podcast, Susie explains, as a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, how interactions with the horse, from rhythmic riding to more esoteric aspects of horses themselves, can be very positive and useful. Music and rhythm are everywhere!

Synchronicity is a powerful complement to music. Magali Hochlander and Jefferson Glassie were both staying at the Devi Music Ashram in February 2026 but didn't know one another when Jefferson coincidentally invited Magali to join him for an evening Kirtan. Dave Balen has been playing music all his life, primarily as a percussionist in all sorts of musical genres. He and Jefferson Glassie met in Varanasi, India and hit it off. Dave had been in Varanasi as a young person at the same time that the Beatles were visiting the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh. Dave has a wealth of knowledge and experience about music and had a wonderful conversation with Jefferson about music, synchronicity, and the power of music.

Gillian Harwin has been singing since her first breath, and plays many stringed instruments (bass, guitar, uke, etc.) so she can sing and play music. She has been having an amazing life in music, with many syncronistic experiences, and also has been fortunate to have learned much from plant medicine. She believes everyone is musical and encourage us all to use our voice in song! She and Jefferson talked about a wide range of topics; she leads a very musical life!

Renaud Ruhlmann has been a musician for years, but also studies the sounds of the plant world. He and Jefferson discuss fascinating aspects of vibrational sounds and connections with plants and animals. Renaud is founder of Naturasounds, which measures and analyzes electrophysiological signals of living organisms and transposes them into sound signals to allow us to hear part of the biological communications of plants.

Patty Raine has had the perception of particular aspects of synesthesia all her life and, in this conversation, analyzes the different types of synesthesia and how they relate to and involve music.
