The passage before us in this message presents one of the brightest spots of the early church's example ... but also one of its most cautionary tales. Listen in as we consider both.

Acts 4.23-31 records what must surely have been one of the most signal days in the lives of the early believers in Jerusalem. And it happened ... at a prayer meeting! Listen in as we consider the significance of this fact for our own lives.

"We cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4.20). That was not only Peter and John's famous statement before the Jewish Council, at the end of a legal ordeal ... but is also a fairly good summary statement of their pattern throughout these early chapters of the book of Acts! Acts 3 records an amazing miracle ... one that makes us continue to stand back and wonder at God's marvelous work in the early church. But is that all we are to do - stand back and wonder? The people of God entered a whole new era in Acts chapter 2. And that church in Jerusalem demonstrates for us so much of what a New Testament church can and should be. Listen in as we consider this wonderful biblical example together!

"What does this mean?" the crowds asked that first Pentecost. A perennial question when Christians read and interpret the marvelous events of Acts chapter 2. Listen is as we give a go at finding some answers!

In this message we consider the ascension of Jesus (and corresponding return), and what happened in those few days between His being taken to heaven, and the coming of the Spirit's power at Pentecost - the disciples' waiting, and commitment to prayer, the fate of Judas, and the appointing of a new apostle.

"Not ashamed" is a famous biblical phrase. Many Christians have memorized it, printed it on t-shirts, seen it on bumper stickers, etc. ... usually in reference to our not being ashamed of the Lord and His word. But Hebrews 2.11 comes at the words "not ashamed" from a completely different angle. Listen in to find out how.

At a recent pastor's gathering, my friend Charlie Schulte said something like this to the gathered group:'What an astonishing disclosure Jesus made to his disciple, Simon, in Luke 22: "Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat." What if Jesus said that to you? But what an amazing promise He makes on the heels of that disclosure: "but I have prayed for you."'What more could we ask?
