Growing up is realizing you are the only person responsible for you. Developing a plan to nurture the relationship with yourself is key to becoming the person you want to be. In the meantime, however, there can be tension between who you’ve been socialized to be and the way you actually want to live–this tension requires our attention and tending. Particularly as we navigate the Loneliness Epidemic, it becomes increasingly pertinent to recognize how our relationship with ourselves may be affecting how we build community and fully show up in our life. Join Emily and Kalen as they explore the process and responsibility of creating intentional relationships with self and others.

When you think about the relationships in your lives, which do you find yourself dedicating more time and energy towards? Your friendships? The ones with your family? A partner (romantic or otherwise)? What about yourself?
In this episode, Kalen and Emily talk about the glorification of romantic love as being ~the love~ everyone should strive for. As two people who never placed that much of a priority on romantic love, our hosts break down their own perspectives on the importance of continuing to nurture friendships and other non-romantic relationships into adulthood, as well as how to sus out boundaries and when (+ how) to gracefully bow out of a friendship. Grab your favorite beverage and learn what Kalen and Emily think you need to know about relationships at your big age.

Grad school is all strategy. Seriously! Join us for part 2 of our grad school episode where we talk funding, #studentloans (looking at you Joe 👀), how to make the most of your grad program, and what we ultimately hope to do with these degrees (besides hanging them on our walls like Emily, or knowing that they’re “somewhere” in our parents’ house like Kalen).
*Editor's Note/A Note from Emily: Hey ya'll, please note that Khadija (the creator whose video I reference at 43:28) uses they/them/theirs pronouns. I did not realize this at the time of recording, so I wanted to add this note and also apologize for any harm caused. Moving forward, I'll make sure to do my due diligence and double check, as well as use more gender inclusive language language in general when I'm not 100% sure.

Pandemic Learning wasn’t just for the kiddos. Emily and Kalen went into the thick of it too. (Please tell us you read that in the voice of Uniqua, Tyrone, and Pablo… Yes, we’re chronically online.) In this episode, our hosts share a glimpse into virtual learning and offer tips on strategically applying to grad school and navigating the admissions process. In typical fashion, this episode takes you a little bit everywhere, so buckle up, come with a notebook and pen, and get your #gradschool on.

Kalen and Emily are excited to welcome you to Season 2 of Please Clarify: At Your Big Age. This season, our hosts are sharing their unofficial guidebook to navigating your 20s and preparing for the big 3-0. You could say it’s life according to Emily and Kalen. Join them on an adventure where they recount the trenches of grad school, discuss the importance of intimacy in all relationships, and give tips on remaining hopeful in the face of capitalism and other intentionally-harmful systems. As Kalen and Emily say, we’ll see you when we see you.
