Former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has laid some of the blame for her election defeat with misogyny. The remote town of Wilcannia in far western New South Wales has long had problems with overcrowding in Aboriginal housing, and the locals are fed up with it. • Questions over eligibility of Family First senate candidate
The Family First candidate tipped to replace Bob Day in the Senate may face legal challenges over her eligibility to serve in the federal parliament. Lucy Gichuhi is an Australian citizen, but has refused to detail proof that she doesn't also hold rights as a Kenyan citizen. The Australian Constitution precludes anyone with dual citizenship from serving in parliament. Legal experts say as long as she's taken 'all reasonable steps' to renounce her citizenship before the election, she'll be eligible to stand.

  • Rockhampton flood peak reached
The flood peak in the central Queensland town of Rockhampton is believed to have been reached. Mid this afternoon, water levels reached 8.75m, far below the original prediction of 9.4m. Authorities say they're relieved for the slight reprieve, though hundreds of homes and businesses have still been inundated, and they warn it could take years for the financial impact of the floods to be known. For now, the town is patiently waiting for the floods to go down, which is expected to start happening on Saturday.
