On Monday the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern named her new cabinet for the next three years, widely noted as the most diverse cabinet, with 8 of the 20 Cabinet ministers being women, 5 Māori cabinet ministers, one South Asian, 3 cabinet ministers gay or lesbian & 3 Pasifika Cabinet Ministers.

On Pacific Breakfast over the next week we will speak with all our Pasifika Ministers, this morning beginning with the Minister For Pacific Peoples, Aupito Toesulusulu Tofae Su’a William Sio, who has also been named as Minister for Courts, Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs,

The preliminary results for the Cannabis referendum show that in response to the question "Do you support the proposed Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill?" 46.1% voted yes & 53.1% voted no. A much narrower margin than the End of Life Choice referendum.

Joining us for more on the results now is Ronji Tanielu, from the Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit. Ronji campaigned passionately against both the end of Life Choice & Cannabis Legalisation & Control referendum.

Bowel cancer is not a topic we are comfortable talking about, but it is an issue that we need to be more aware of as it is New Zealand’s second highest cause of cancer death.

The Ministry of Education has released two funds - the Pacific Education Support Fund and the Pacific Education Innovation Fund to support Pacific learners and families to remain engaged in education.

This is part of the Pacific Education Action Plan which includes building on the investment of $27.4 million in Budget 2019 with further investment of $80.2 million in Budget 2020 to support Pacific learners and families to access and participate in education, through the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund.

The two largest components of the $80.2million package are the Pacific Education Support Fund which totalled $39.7m and the Pacific Education Innovation Fund ($28.5m).

Both funds are now open until the 5th and 6th of November.
