Pocha Podcast

Las Pochas tackle two cultural heavyweights: the virgin/whore complex and gorda/flaca battle of the images. We also talk craft cervezas and if microbrews are assimilated suds... plus we take taste tests!! Y mira un sorpresa at the end for Latinx Heritage Month. Um.... don't have your audio cranked the last minute.

Let's be honest: we recorded on August 3rd and we had quite a bit to process. And there's nothing Las Pochas are better at then processing. Also, what is wiri wiri anyway? And we talk shop on using 'x' in a gendered language.

What did you grow up watching? Las Pochas reminisce on childhood tv (pinsas on the tele and all) and compare that to the Latinx reboot of One Day at a Time. And authentic or pandering? The first presidential debate included Spanish from a few candidates so we chew on that. Plus Colorado vs New Mexico in the great chile war of 2019 is our Que Hay De Nuevo subject.

Summer is here and so are the smells and sounds of summer and also debates because, and maybe you've heard, a presidential election is coming up. And that means candidates start speaking Spanish, but Julian Castro (like many of us) has a complex relationship with the language. Put on your headphones and let's talk summer and speaking Spanish.

Wait, so how did Las Pochas meet anyway? Let's roll back in time to find out. Plus, we talk shaving and visiting the Motherland.

Ink is out, Pocha humor is in. Mama always said don't get caught with dirty undies, but what happens if they bail on you at a chain store? Find out.

We fly the rainbow flag and get our queer convo on. Plus, two different takes on cholo classics Blood In Blood Out and Mi Vida Loca. And in the que hay de nuevo: Danny Trejo. The man, the legend, the donas and taco king.

We know you're missing some Pocha in your life. So we have a bonus... you know when you wiri wiri with your friends (chew the fat for our non-Pocha friends). Well we wiri wiri about nonsense when we record episodes. That means bonus content!

The pocha take on appropriating another country's minor holiday while hoping a wall keeps them out. Assimilation in New Mexico - north vs south. Plus, what GenMex/GenLatinx podcast is worth its salt without a Selena convo?

Here it is, the full first. In our inaugural episode, we chew the fat on what a pocha is, where is this borderlandia people keep talking about, and que hay de nuevo (basically what fun new things we found on the interwebs). Get to know the refined pocha and the old and gritty pocha.
