Pod Stallions : Obsession Done Right

This month sees us discussing the days of slapping paint everywhere and getting a l'il high off glue. Model kits has us discussing Aurora, Addar, MPC, fundimensions and many other kit manufacturers long gone. Subjects include Sweathogs, the Fonz, Planet of the Apes, Jaws, Doctor Who, Gerry Anderson, Universal Monsters, Dark Shadows, Star Trek and much more. As always we get sidetracked into talking about Jason's singing voice, Cosplay and star wars sneakers. Please note I am working on raising my volume level, thought I had it licked this show but it's a work in progress. It's been a long time coming, the first foray into what is the quintessential science fiction block buster of the early 1970s, the Planet of the Apes Phenom. Episode 1 deals with the first movie (we're going to take our time with this) and brushes lightly on the actors, the makeup, the script, our man crushes on Roddy McDowell and  why the film had almost no merchandise when first released. We also take our normal diversions like discovering Jason was on Deep Space 9 (!), Malcom McDowell knows his movie trivia, why Brian hates bowling for dollars, Mego toys, Rex Harrison, MST 3K and a Man called Sloane.  Download the Show Here Listen here Plenty more content on the PodStallions Facebook page! With last month's passing of Leonard Nimoy, we decided to pick up where we left off when last discussing Star Trek. This episode touches upon the highs and lows of the Star Trek movie franchise, ending at part 6. We also discuss the (minimalist) 80s merchandise, conventions, films the cast did and don't hate us but neither of us are big TNG fans. Seeing as we were unceremoniously cut off from finishing last month's show, Jason and myself decided to cut a "mini-sode" in addition to our regular show (which debuts next Friday) to finish what we started. We pick up on "Pink Lady and Jeff" talk about the Bay City Rollers, briefly touch on DC Follies and the 1991 Land of the Lost Remake ending on the new Electra Woman and Dyna girl announcement. It's short and sweet but it's jam packed! We're back and we're launching our first episode of 2014 resurrecting the Retro Awards. For those not familiar with the Retro Awards, it's a celebration of things that came out in the last year (for this show we've slid into 2013 a l'il bit) that we feel rocked a 70s vibe. Of course along the way we get terribly sidetracked and discuss the Hudson brothers, Planet of the Apes, Doctor Who annuals, Herve Villechez and Tim Burton's Batman. Surprising we're still better at hosting awards shows than James Franco... Download the Show Here Listen here Awards Run Down:

It's been nearly two years since we discussed all things Star Wars and what better time than when we all got teased with the further adventures of Luke Skywalker and crew. Episode 25 takes us back to that fateful summer when the most highly anticipated film of our lives (at the time, it's been replaced by "Glitter" now) landed. It's a tumultuous time when we first discovered the word "Spoiler" (thank you Marvel comics!) and the heart break of us watching the bad guys win. Of course along the way we discuss kenner action figures, competitive collecting, modern fandom, battle beyond the stars, Jason's fondness for the Ewoks  and give absolutely no opinion on the current trailer. Our November podcast has Jason and Brian waxing nostalgic (which technically is our job) about the glory days of Starlog magazine. Starlog magazine was how both of us first cut our nerdy teeth, a wonderful window into the world of SF and fantasy that gave us that connection. It's safe to say, this podcast owes a lot to this publication. Even if we often times asked for a brown paper bag so as to not get beat up on the way home. We review landmark issues and of course, talk about the wonderful ads that appeared over the decades. Along the way we discuss SF of the 70s and 80s, Mego toys, Blade Runner, model kits, Flash Gordon, Shatner, Jim Sterenko and most importantly Harlan Ellison's hat. As we are both lovers of Monster Cinema or some call it "Creature Features" it makes sense for J and B to count down their top ten favourite Monster movies. By favourite, we do not mean "best" or greatest, just our personal favourites. Our top tens vary wildly which makes for an interesting discussion, Jason seems to prefer classic film while Brian seems to enjoy mostly junk food. The list wildly ping pongs between the houses of Hammer, Toho, Hemisphere, Independant International and Señor Spielbergo.  Along the way we discuss Karloff, Chaney, Yaphet Kotto, Stephen King, Doctor Who, Paul Naschy, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and loads more.  Happy Halloween from Pod Stallions! As the title suggests, episode 22 delves into the wonderful world of Halloween costumes but none of that "Home made with your mom's love" kinda junk, this talks about the good old "smock and mask" stuff you got at places like Woolco or Kresge's. In what is probably our most visual episode, Jason and Brian go through the many catalogs on Plaidstallions from companies such as Collegeville, Ben Cooper and Kusan. From deep discussions about Grizzly Adams, The Village People, Hee-Haw, Tattoo from Fantasy Island and of course, Flash Gordon. This one doesn't leave many 70s stones unturned. Look for cameos by your favourite Star Wars characters Yada, Darth Vadar and Baba Fett.
