Such an honer to have Lauren Martel stop by the studio for a surprise visit today, as you all know by now Lauren is running for South Carolina Attorney General. This will be her second time on the show and we are very grateful to have her. And here is a word straight from Lauren herself!
I am in this to win it on June 14. It is only Alan Wilson and me in this race. No other republicans. It’s time to fire Alan! Vote Lauren Martel
I will uphold our constitution and our laws. I am a Republican. I value the standard of the Republican creed. I am a strong constitutional conservative. Here are the answers I gave to the SC league of womens voter questions for your information
What will be your top three priorities for action as Attorney General?
I am a SC first candidate. I will uphold the SC constitution and law of the state for the people of South Carolina I will promote medical freedom and investigate monopolies if markets are being manipulated to the detriment of the people of South Carolina I will investigate voter fraud issues and corrupt voter rolls I will protect our Heritage and uphold the law I will seek criminal justice reform so recidivism doesn’t cause more crime as seen recently in SC I will fight mandates that violate the constitution. I will actively seek to stop human trafficking I will investigate corruption even if it’s in government or government agencies.
Under what circumstances should the Attorney General's office participate in lawsuits against the federal government?
Any situation where the federal government has overreached into states rights or violating people of SC rights
What will you as Attorney General do to investigate and prosecute consumer fraud claims? How will you address utility rates and insurance costs that you deem to be exorbitant?
I will open investigations with SLED and follow up on these investigations. Where appropriate prosecute and break up monopolies We must expose scams and fraud and hold perpetrators accountable
Under what conditions would you spend taxpayer money on outside counsel?
I would be very conservative and use high scrutiny on any contracts for help from outside counsel. I would use transparency and insure no conflicts of interest. I would follow ethical standards and reasonableness of the fee itself. An hourly rate that is reasonable May be considered if an area of legal expertise was needed. However the Attorney General is elected and salaried and has a large staff. So much should be accomplished within the AG office without necessity of bringing in other law firms.
I will attempt to answer your questions in more detail. However It may take more time - I did want to respond to your active group timely!
