Jesus painted a true picture of the life as a faithful follower of Christ. On one hand His disciples would enjoy the fellowship of one another and the friendship of God. On the other hand, the outside world would reject them and show hatred toward them. 2 Corinthians 4:1-4
Jesus said a Disciple of Christ would not love the world – that is the sinful works of the flesh which are in it. Jesus wanted their focus on the Kingdom. Matthew 6:24-34
Jesus stressed to His disciples – because they were chosen out of the world, and they followed Christ, they would be persecuted, just as He their Master was.
Jesus judged the world because of His word He preached to them. The world is guilty of loving sin.
Those who hate Jesus, hate God the Father.
The Holy Scriptures were and are being fulfilled through the world’s demonstration of hatred for all things holy.

Jesus demonstrated the Father’s love to His disciples. He gave them the love He had received.
Jesus knew the disciples must abide in His love in order to keep His commandments. There was no other way.
Jesus equipped His disciples to have maximum joy in this life.
Jesus emphasized the strongest demonstration of love was to sacrifice one’s life for another. He was foretelling them of His pending death on the cross.
Jesus qualified His disciples as His friends if they kept His commandments.
Like Abraham, the disciples were called God’s friends. James 2:23
Jesus made it clear that His disciples were God’s appointed men who were tasked with bearing much.
Jesus intended for His disciple’s fruit to remain and be lasting. Galatians 5:22-23
In being fruitful, the disciples had a promise of answered prayer.
Jesus insisted that His disciples must follow His command of love for one another.

The Father was sending a gift, the Helper! God the Son was returning to Heaven and God the Father was sending God the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name to help them.
God the Holy Spirit was not only coming to help, but He was also coming to teach the disciples spiritual truths and remind them of Jesus’ teachings. Ephesians 1:3-14
Jesus left His disciples a gift – Peace! Jesus left the disciples with His personal peace. He could do this because He is the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Jesus comforted His disciples troubled and fearful hearts. Philippians 4:4-9
Once more, Jesus told His disciples about His imminent future ascension to the Father.
Jesus had/has a high view of God the Father. He loved because He is love.
Jesus provided aid to the weak faith of the disciples. He referenced “when” – a future state when everything He said would come (did come) to pass.
Jesus acknowledge the present work and limited power of Satan. 1 Peter 5:8-11
Jesus declared Satan’s liabilities and his failures before a sinless King Jesus, therefore, having no part of His Kingdom. John 8:44
Jesus’ determined to demonstrate to His disciples and the world, His love of and His obedience to, God the Father.
Have you received the free gift from the Prince of Peace? Romans 6:23

What commandments would they have to keep? The number ranges from 600-1000 in the whole Bible. Jesus intended for them to keep the greatest commandment. Matthew 22:35-40
God the Son promised His disciples that He would ask God the Father to send to them God the Holy Spirit when He (Jesus) went away.
The work of the Holy Spirit brings glory to God the Father and the Son. He is the Helper, the Comforter, the Counselor, the Spirit of truth.
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would live within the disciples of Christ and around them, eternally.
Jesus lovingly implanted the truth of His going to the Father as being imminent. He comforted His disciples with the knowledge that if they keep His commandments, they would be loved by Him and God the Father.
Jesus taught that the world does not love Jesus and therefore does not keep His words. Nonbelievers are disobedient to the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit is the personal Teacher for every Believer.
The Holy Spirit gives special spiritual memory to a Believer at the time of need.
Have you given your life to Jesus Christ?
Are you walking daily in His presence?
Are you listening to the Teacher, the Holy Spirit?

In his spiritual blindness, Philip asked Jesus to see the Father. Jesus addressed his dullness of heart and proclaimed, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
In quick succession Jesus fired questions to Philip and the others at the table. He wanted His disciples to know He was the Revelation of God. He would not tolerate unbelief. John 20:30,31
Jesus proclaimed that His authority and power to do miracles came from the Father Who dwelled within Him.
The miracles Jesus performed declared Him God. Jesus expected His disciples to believe. Even the Jewish rulers believed – to a point of disbelief. John 3:1-16
Jesus intended to challenge His disciples to walk by faith and not by sight. He knew they would have to begin exercising their faith very soon.
Are you searching today for peace, hope, and purpose?
God the Father’s plans will never be your plans, or at least He will never “do” what you think He should do your way. His ways are higher! Isaiah 55:6-9
Never let your emotions or thoughts outweigh the Word of God and faith.
You can know God in a personal love relationship only found in Jesus Christ alone.
Is Jesus sufficient for you today?

Jesus is the Great Consoler – He encouraged His disciples with a message of hope.
Jesus emphasized the need for a specific belief in Him.
Jesus spoke about the Father’s House, the place He would be and the place they would be if they had faith in Him.
Jesus explained His Divine preparation for Heavenly citizenship.
Jesus comforted His disciples by describing their Heavenly home.
Jesus told His disciples He was leaving, but He also told them He was coming to get them.
Jesus promised His disciples they would be with Him again.
Jesus reminded His disciples that they in fact knew the way.
In ignorance Thomas spoke said, “Lord we don’t know where You are going, how can we know the way.”
With great authority, Jesus described to them God – “I Am the way!”
Jesus added to His declarative statement by adding – “I Am the truth, and the life.”
In this tense moment, each disciple had to check His heart to see if he honestly believed in Jesus as Messiah.
Today is no different for us, we must actually believe Jesus is the way to heaven in order to go to Heaven.
Do we practice what we preach?
Are we living like Jesus is coming back for us?

Jesus used His title, “Son of Man,” to emphasize His servanthood and humility. God took on flesh and died a death all of mankind deserved. Jesus paid it all. Romans 5:8; Colossians 1:13-14
Jesus promised that God the Father would glorify Him immediately. This occurred with Jesus’ death on the cross, burial, and resurrection.
Jesus told His disciples of His imminent departure. He knew they would be like little children who would face immediate fear, stress, doubt, and great uncertainty. Jesus had compassion for His disciples. 1 Peter 5:6,7
Jesus earlier told the unbelieving Judaizers that He was leaving and they would seek Him but where He was going, they would never go. They thought He was going into exile or going to commit suicide. John 7:32-36; 8:18-24
Jesus informed His disciples that they would seek Him, but then He tells them about a new commandment in the middle of their fear – “love one another.” They could not follow Him where He was going – now, but would follow afterwards.
The disciples were prideful, competitive, fighters, given to outburst of anger, arrogant, among other things. Jesus’ command to love one another would prove crucial for these men in fulfilling God’s plan. Galatians 5:22-26
Jesus commanded His disciples to be identified as those who love.
Peter didn’t listen to Jesus, he wanted what Peter wanted. Jesus rebuked Peter.
