    What’s in a Name? – John 13:13-30
The Feast of Passover, as well as the Feast of Unleavened Bread is taking place during this season of Scripture (John 13:1). Jesus demonstrated the humility of a servant to His disciples. He would later humble Himself and die on the cross as the Passover Lamb. Philippians 2:5-11

The disciples called Jesus, Teacher and Lord. He walked with them for three years.

Jesus gave His disciples an example of humility when He washed their feet. Jesus emphasized the fact that He was/is Lord and Teacher. Because He is the Great I AM, the disciples must follow Him and His ways. Impact Scripture: 1 Peter 5:5-11

Jesus emphasized the importance of obedience to God.

Three (ifs) stick out in the Passage. (1) IF Jesus is Lord and Teacher – obey Him. (2) IF there is clarity in what Jesus said, obey Him. (3) IF a disciple of Jesus obeys His commands, blessings in life are promised.

Jesus prophesied that one of His chosen ones would become His betrayer. He told them before it happened so they would believe Jesus is the Messiah.

The disciples knew their own hearts. They looked at each other desiring to know which one of them would betray Him. Peter motioned to John wanting him to ask Jesus who it was.

After Jesus dipped the bread in the cup with Judas, Satan invaded Judas’ heart and possessed him.

Jesus immediately sent Judas away into the night to fulfill the will of God. Judas loved darkness more than he loved the Light. John 1:9-13

    Is Jesus your Lord?

Are you learning from His Word?
Are you humbling yourself to be more like Jesus?

Spiritual Reputation, Spiritual Legacy – Hebrews 11:1-3; 8-16
God gives us the spiritual lens by which to be faithful. He gives us the measure of faith to believe Him for all things.

Faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. This is believing faith.

Believing faith is how the righteous ones of the past received their testimony. Their life story is a true faith in God and of God’s terrific faithfulness.

The righteous have believing faith whereby we trust, with enduring confidence, in the power, wisdom, and goodness of God. We believe He is our Creator.

Abraham and Sarah are examples for all generations of ones who, although not perfect, exercised believing faith.

Abraham obeyed God when he was called by God to a place he would receive as an inheritance. He went not knowing where he was going. Genesis 15:1-6

By faith, Sarah received the ability to conceive a child, even when she was long past the normal age for it. She believed God, Who had given her the promise, to be reliable and true to His word. Genesis 18:9-12

The faithful righteous who have gone before us knew they were strangers and pilgrims on this earth. They were looking for a homeland.

The faithful righteous had/have a spiritual desire for their heavenly home.

God is not ashamed to be called God by the faithful righteous. He has prepared a city for them (Heaven).

The Good, New, and Living Way – Hebrews 10:11-25
God’s demonstrated the insufficiency of man’s attempts to take away sin.

Christ’s death fulfilled God’s will; He established the second covenant.

In accordance with the will of God, the Christian Believer has been sanctified [that is, set apart as holy for God and His purposes] through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) once for all.

Jesus died once as the Sacrificial payment for sins. He was and is the all-sufficient Sacrifice, forever. When He completed the will of God, He sat down at the right hand of God. Romans 8:31-39

The Holy Spirit seals the law of God in the Believer’s heart and signs the law into their minds.

God offers absolute forgiveness and complete cancellation of the penalty sins through the blood of Jesus. There is no longer any offering to be made or can be made to atone for sin. Jesus finished it! 2 Corinthians 5:12-21

God’s new and living way, authorizes Christians to have Holy boldness and freely enter the place where He dwells. Jesus gives us access!

Christians are witnesses to the faithfulness of God. Christians must hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Christians should encourage other Christians to keep on working for Jesus.

Christians should never neglect their opportunities to meet together as believers for worship and instruction. Although, some do.

Christ is returning. Christians must be faithful.

    Radiant Living – Matthew 5:14-16
God is light, and so is His Son. 1 John 1:5; John 8:12

Jesus came to the earth to display His light. John 1:1-13

Jesus explained His light penetrates spiritual darkness. Luke 11:33-36

Disciples of Jesus have His light in them and they must influence the world around them. It is God’s plan that believers shine forth His light.

Jesus caused His light to be radiated through His faithful, obedient disciples.

The light of Jesus in His disciples is radiant and obvious.

Disciples of Jesus shine their light into a spiritually darkened world.

True “Christ light” cannot and will not be hidden.

Jesus’ light has a guiding purpose. His light is a beacon, warning all led by sin to turn to Christ.

Jesus’ light leads others through darkness.

The world is looking. Faithful disciples of Jesus are eager to let their light shine so that all may see it and bring glory to God the Father.

Do you have the light of God within you?

Have you asked Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins and come into your life?

Are you daily letting your light shine for Christ?

Blueprints for Gospel Bridges – Matthew 9:1-13
As we begin, we have to recognize Jesus as the “Author and Finisher” of our faith (Hebrews 12:2) and Creator of the blueprints for Gospel bridges. Jesus Himself is the Good News! Remember Matthew is writing to a Jewish audience. He is Kingdom focused.

Jesus crossed over the Sea of Galilee to His “hometown” of Capernaum. He moved into His Divine location.

Jesus saw the faith of bridge building friends. They knew their broken friend needed a word from Jesus.

Jesus said to the broken man, your sins are forgiven. He spoke as a “Man” with power of God! God heals the willing broken.

Jesus saw the thoughts of other broken people. He knew their thoughts were evil.

Jesus said to the forgiven, broken man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.” For the first time, the man went home complete in Jesus.

Jesus saw a man named Matthew.

    Jesus said “follow Me.”

Jesus sat with His disciples and unbeliever’s for a meal and fellowship. He received the outcast.

Jesus heard the words of the religious broken. He gave all of them the requirements to healing spiritual disease.

    Jesus assigned homework.

    Things we should remember:

    • We are not Jesus.
    • The Gospel Bridge is costly, but free.
    • There is only One blueprint and bridge Builder, Jesus Christ.
    • The bridge may have many designs but only one blueprint. John 14:6
    • It is not your bridge!

  • Inspecting the Expected (1 Peter 4:1-19)

    Inspecting the Expected – 1 Peter 4:1-19
Peter commands Christians to fight like warriors in order to keep the spiritual mind of Christ. Our thoughts and responses should all be seasoned with truth, smothered in grace.

A Christian’s old sinful life is in the rearview mirror. Enough time has been wasted in sin, so a Believer must not look back or go back there.

When a person becomes a Christian, their unbelieving family and friends can become resentful and surprised that they do not think like them, value their values, and run hand in hand with them into sin.

Jesus Christ is the Judge and all, the living and the dead. The Gospel gives all men the opportunity to repent and live according to God in the spirit. 1 John 3:1-23

Christ Jesus is soon to return. Christians must be serious and watchful, using their God-given spiritual gifts for His glory.

Fiery ordeals will take place in the Christian’s life. These things take place to test the quality of a Christian’s faith. Christians must not act as though something strange or unusual is happening to them.

Christians must share in Christ’s sufferings. The faithful keep on rejoicing, so that when His glory is revealed, they will rejoice with great joy.

Blessings are promised to those who are insulted and reviled for bearing the name of Christ. Why? Because the Holy Spirit of glory and of God rests upon the Believer, regardless of the circumstances. The world curses Jesus, we worship Him.

Christians must inspect their lives daily. We have been saved by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Christians should continue to do right and commit their souls to their Creator God. This is His will.

When you inspect your life are you doing what God expects?

Running to Win – Hebrews 12:1-11
We commonly refer to Hebrews chapter eleven as the “Hall of Faith.” Listed are the righteous saints of the past who gave all so they might receive their prize. Chapter twelve begins with a challenge. Will we accept the Holy Spirit inspired challenge?

We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness.

As we spiritually mature, we must strip off every unnecessary sin. These sins easily entangle us as we strive, with the Holy Spirit’s leading, to live the Christian life.

We are challenged to run with endurance and actively persist in the race we personally have set before us.

The faith race requires us to focus our eyes on Jesus Christ, who is the Author and Perfecter of mature Christian faith.

Jesus joyfully endured the suffering and shame of the cross for our redemption.

Jesus sat down at the right hand of the throne of God revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work.

We have been exhorted as sons not to give up or give in when it gets hard. It is going to get harder.

Earthly dads are the example God uses for us to rightly understand His discipline. This is the example in Scripture: “We have had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we submitted and respected them for training us; shall we not much more willingly submit to the Father of spirits, and live by learning from His discipline? Hebrews 12:9

God’s goal in our discipline is for us to conform to His will.

It is a Matter of the Heart – Luke 12:1-34
Jesus hates hypocrisy. Jesus has nothing good to say for people who profess their love for God yet continue in their sins. This type of person is self-righteous and headed for destruction.

Jesus taught human destiny is in the hands of God. A righteous person stands in great awe of God and they fear Him. Only those receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord will enter into Heaven.

Jesus emphasized God’s Divine knowledge and care for humans.

All of Heaven knows when a person is a faithful follower of Jesus.

Jesus stressed to His disciples the importance of an eternal focus. He must be trusted day by day. He warns the fools!

Jesus exhorted His disciples not to be anxious or worried.

Jesus used the beauty of nature as an illustration of how to much He loves people. He demonstrated we can and must trust Him.

Jesus gave His disciples their first priority. Worship Him first. Faithful followers of Jesus will seek after the things of God.

Jesus reminded His disciples to keep looking to God as they look to their future.

Jesus summed up the case for worship. Where people place their treasure is where their hearts are loyal.

Are you looking to God for your future?

Have you trusted Jesus to be your Savior and Lord? Would Heaven declare it?

    Where is your treasure?
