Go! Go! Go! – Matthew 28:1-20

The Word of God takes us to a not-so-distant Sunday morning! A couple of devoted women, who desired to express their love for Jesus, brought spices to His burial tomb to complete the process of anointing His body in burial. In their surprise, they encountered the supernatural power of God!

God demonstrated His mighty wonders when He shook the earth twice in the same weekend. Matthew 27:50-54; 28:2

God sent His holy messengers to proclaim His power to raise His Son from the dead. Romans 10:9-13

The unrighteous guards felt the first and second earthquake but fell to the ground as dead men when they saw the bright as lightning angels.

The angels of the Lord encouraged the women to put away their fear and take a look into the empty tomb of the resurrected Lord.

The angel’s strong message was simple, “God raised Jesus from the dead, just as He said.”

On the authority of God, the angels commanded the women to GO – quickly and tell His disciples God raised Jesus from the dead, and to meet the risen Lord in Galilee at the place He had planned for them earlier.

As the women hurried to be obedient, Jesus encountered them. He told them to “Rejoice,” and they did! After they worshipped Him, He told them to GO – and tell my brothers to meet Him in Galilee at the place He had planned for them earlier.

While the righteous followers of Jesus celebrated their new found Hope and message, the unrighteous unbelievers crafted their diabolical plan and message.

Jesus’ disciples went to Galilee, just as He commanded them. There, they encountered the living Lord Jesus and received their great commission.

Jesus commanded His disciples to GO – to the Nations, to make disciples, to baptize disciples, and to teach His disciples the teachings of God.

Jesus reminded His disciples, as they were going, there never would be a time He was not with them. Even until the end of time.

Knowing Jesus and the Power of His Resurrection – Philippians 3:1-11

Paul repeated a safety warning to the Church at Philippi. He put up a beware of the dogs sign! The dogs referred to the Judaizers, the legalist, and those who claimed it necessary for circumcision to be a follower of Christ. He put the early Churches attention of where it needed to be, namely on the resurrected Jesus.

God through Paul instructed the Church to rejoice in the resurrected Christ Jesus.

The Christian Believer is to have no confidence in what we have or who we are, but we must understand that we who are born-again have been reborn from above and have been spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose.

Paul used himself as an example of someone who might have grounds for confidence in the flesh if he were pursuing salvation by works. He lists some of his life achievements.

Paul is quick to say, “Whatever former things were gains to me, as I thought then, I have come to consider as absolutely worthless for the sake of Christ and the purpose which He has given my life.”

Paul counted everything as loss compared to the priceless privilege and supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord. He desired to grow more deeply and thoroughly in relationship with Jesus. This is pure joy!

What is the basis of our Christian faith? Possessing genuine righteousness which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God.

The Believer’s desire should be the same as Paul’s; to know Jesus experientially, and the power of His resurrection; to share in the fellowship of His sufferings, even unto death.

Why all of this? so that we may attain to the resurrection that will raise us from the dead. Hallelujah!

    That’s It! – John 10:22-42

John specifically points in Scripture to the actions of Jesus during another Jewish festival. Jesus celebrated the Festival of Lights also called the Festival of Dedication. This is a winter celebration taking place sometime in late November or early December.

John told us clearly it was the time of the Festival of Dedication. He mentioned the season – winter.

John told us the place where Jesus paced and taught. The place is called Solomon’s space.

The Jewish leadership understood the actions Jesus demonstrated were those of the coming Messiah.

The Jewish leadership wanted Jesus to declare His title, not so they could believe Him, but so they could stone Him.

Christ declared His Divinity. He pointed to the many miracles and good works He did as His credentials and evidence to help their unbelief. Jesus said His miracles bear witness to His Deity.

Jesus told the Jewish leadership they did not believe because they were not His sheep. Jesus emphasized His sheep know His voice.

Jesus declared Himself the giver of eternal life.

Jesus described His oneness with God the Father. This caused the unbelieving Jews to take up stones to kill Him.

Jesus asked the Jewish leaders, for which good work do you stone me?

The blinding unbelief of the Jewish leadership caused them to see Jesus’ good works but regard Him only as a mere man.

Jesus escaped the grasp of the mob and traveled beyond the Jordan, to the area of Bethany.

Many Jewish people came to Him and believed in Him for eternal life.

Good Shepherd – Saved Sheep – John 10:1-11

The actions of chapter nine of John, flow right into chapter ten. This is the same day with the same actors in the audience. Jesus challenged His disciples and those would be disciples to believe and understand His way. Followers of the Good Shepherd are rewarded for being obedient.

Jesus affirmed His preaching as true. He begins His words with, “Amen!, Amen!”

Jesus distinguished between the real hope that comes from following Him for salvation versus false hope offered by the Pharisees (false shepherds).

Jesus cares for the Flock of God.

Jesus’ sheep hear and know His voice. They follow Him.

Jesus knows His sheep by name and He leads them. Psalm 23

Jesus’ gives confident guidance to His sheep, because He goes before them. When they hear His voice they follow Him.

Jesus sheep identify false shepherds and flee from them.

The unbelieving audience were dull of heart and did not understand Jesus’ teaching.

Jesus declared another “I Am” statement to the crowd. With clarity, He stated He is the door of salvation.

Jesus called out the Pharisees and false leaders as thieves and robbers. Sheep will not hear their voices.

According to Jesus, the thief has one combined agenda – steal, kill, and destroy.

Jesus had/has for His mission: give His sheep abundant life.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He gave His life for all who would believe (His sheep).

Do you belong to Jesus today?

Are you one of His sheep?
Are you experiencing the joy of hearing the Shepherds voice?

Mud Pies for Blinded Eyes – John 9:1-41

We must remember the words of Jesus when reading this passage today. Jesus said He was/is the Light of the world. Now the Holy Light is encountered an earthly sinner. Spoiler alert: Light wins over darkness!

God moved Jesus from a religious fight scene with the spiritually blind Pharisees to a Divine appointment with a physically blind man.

The disciples of Jesus were puzzled. They asked whose fault was it that this man was born blind. There is a hint of strange believism here.

Jesus answered their questions directly and followed His teaching with a miracle. Every miracle Jesus performed had a heavenly message. This miracle was to demonstrate God’s supernatural work.

Jesus made clay of saliva and dirt. He placed it on the blind man’s eyes and instructed him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The pool called “Sent.” The man obeyed and immediately received his sight! Praise God!

The testimony of the blind man who had received his sight shocked his neighbors. They brought him to the Pharisees.

The religious rulers heard his testimony and rejected it because Jesus healed him on the Sabbath. Their unbelief caused them to summon this adult man’s parents in an effort to verify his blindness at birth.

The healed man replied, “Well, this is astonishing! You do not know where He comes from, and yet He opened my eyes! We know [according to your tradition] that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone fears God and does His will, He hears him. Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this Man were not from God, He would not be able to do anything [like this because God would not hear His prayer].” John 9:30-34 AMP

The Pharisees insulted the man and threw him out of the synagogue.

Jesus sought after the man and invited him to believe in the Son of God. The man believed on Jesus and he worshipped Him.

Jesus exposed the spiritual blindness and pride of the Pharisees. He clearly told them because of their unbelief, their sin and guilt remained!

    Unquestionably Free – John 8:31-59

Jesus preached to the large crowds who listened. In those crowds were the religious rulers who refused to believe in Jesus as Messiah and had for their will to kill Him. But in the crowd were those who believed. While the religious leaders rejected Him, many in the crowd received Him.

Jesus invested His time with those who believed. His message to them was to persevere in His word.

Jesus promised His disciples spiritual liberty if they remained in His word.

The religious rulers objected to Jesus’ words by claiming Jews were free men because they were of Abraham’s seed.

Jesus contrasted the unbeliever’s spiritual bondage against the believer’s spiritual freedom. To abide in Christ is to have eternal life.

Jesus announced Himself to be the Liberator for all sinful people who would believe! Romans 7:24,25

Jesus spoke directly to the people about their sin and their evil works. With clarity, He gave them a diagnostic test wherewith they could test themselves.

(SIDE NOTE) Paul told the Corinthian Church to test themselves. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Here are questions we can ask ourselves to see if we are truly saved?

    (1) Has there been a time in my life when I trusted Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins and asked Him to be my Lord and Savior? Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-13
    (2) Am I obedient to Christ’s commands? John 15:10; 1 John 3:24
    (3) Do I follow Jesus’ example? 1 John 2:3-6
    (4) Do I live free from habitual sin? 1 John 3:4-6
    (5) Do I live with the awareness of a divine presence within my life? Is my life God-centered? 1 John 4:13-21

The religious leaders resorted to racial slurs and defamation of Jesus? They failed the test because their spiritual blindness shown through their words and actions.

Jesus declared their ignorance of God to them. He proclaimed to them that He is the Great I AM and they missed it!

The religious leaders picked up stones to kill Him. Jesus passed through them.

Lighting the Way Out of Darkness – John 8:12-30
Jesus was on a God mission. He would not be stopped by threats of arrest, death, or other distractions. Jesus came to save His people from their sins! (Matthew 1:21). Jesus was openly clear about His mission. (John 3:14-21).

The Pharisees had spoken great swelling words about arresting Jesus and putting Him to death. They refused to believe He was the Messiah, despite the evidence.

The Pharisees feared loosing the affection of the crowd. They enjoyed their popularity.

The Pharisees sent guards to arrest Jesus, yet the guards failed because of the power of His words.

Jesus prophesied His death and ascension to Heaven. Jesus had zero fear.

The Jews misunderstood the truth Jesus taught about His heavenly return and the coming of the Holy Spirit. They thought He was leaving Israel to go and teach the Greeks or the Jews in exile.

The crowd of people were divided. Some believed, some did not.

The Pharisees were angered by the people thinking for themselves. They even scorned one of their own, Nicodemus.

Everyone went to their home, except Jesus, He went to the Mount of Olives. Why?

Jesus returned to His teaching in the temple court, all of the people came to Him.

The scribes and the Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand in the middle of the court. Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 20:10

The rulers attempted to set Jesus up so they could accuse Him of wrong.

Jesus offered them the opportunity to judge her with true judgment. They could not.

Jesus offered her qualified complete forgiveness.
