The Apostle Peter gives the reason for writing his epistle in Chapter 3. Scoffers will come, challenging God's Word and tempting us to turn to the world for comfort and deliverance from trials. Pastor Mat encourages us to live in the reality that we are citizens of heaven; this is not our permanent home. Don't compromise our relationship with Jesus to give ourselves temporary relief.
What does it mean to set our minds on things above? Pastor Jin looks at Paul's encouragement to the church to remember we have our life in Christ. Therefore, there are things to do, and things not to do; things to put on, and things to put off.
Why does God allow wickedness to continue in the world? That question has been asked since the beginning of time by those who seek to serve God. The psalmist asks it in Psalm 10: Why are You so far away, God? Don't You see what's going on? It can lead us to attempt to solve the world's problems in the strength of the natural man. But is that the right response to a world full of wrongs?
How do false prophets and teachers deceive people? In this study, Pastor Mat looks at the Apostle Peter's warnings about false teachers that are actually settled in among believers. He describes their character, lists their sins, and explains their allure. He cautions us not to be drawn away to follow after them. As apostasy grows in our world, it is an important message for us to take to heart.
What distinguishes a good shepherd from a false shepherd? Pastor Mat answers that question by looking at the description given by the Good Shepherd Himself. We also learn something important about the Good Shepherd's true sheep: they hear and follow His voice, not that of the thieves and robbers that come after His sheep. Do you want to hear God's voice?
What do you do when you feel an overwhelming need to pray, but don't know what to say? Or when you want to praise the Lord, but don't know what to sing? "Take the Old 100," says Pastor Mat. This study through Psalm 100 shows what we can always use to pray and praise the Lord, because we can always make a joyful noise to Him, no matter what our circumstances.
In this study, Pastor Mat looks at Communion: the importance of it, the frequency of celebrating it, and the holiness that surrounds it. Communion should unite believers. Here in the US, however, Christian churches are divided, with over 30,000 denominations. Churches even divide over their teaching on Communion. How should we view the Lord's Supper? How should it "bring us back to center" in our Christian walk?
What did the Corinthians get so wrong about the Lord's Supper? That's the question in this second message about Communion, based in First Corinthians 11. Pastor Mat looks at what it means to come together as the Lord's Body, the Bride of Christ. We also learn the importance of taking seriously both the ceremony of communion and the sin in our lives, and the consequences Jesus warns us about if we don't.
A special night of worship and sharing testimonies of gratitude to the Lord for His many blessings in our lives here at Great Rock Church. Led by Pastors Mat and Jin.
Why do people gravitate toward false prophets? How do you spot a false prophet? Do they even know that they are false prophets? These are some of the questions Pastor Mat looks at in this study. Peter was writing to people who were suffering, encouraging them with the fact that God knew how to deliver them. They did not need to turn to false prophets and worldly remedies. Neither do we.
