The Sir Reel Fishing Team in recent years has been quite the featured vessel throughout the South Florida tournament circuit. Of course, when you’re the first team on the planet to ride out on HCB’s revolutionary 53 Suenos Center Console you’re going to get a little attention, but this team goes a lot deeper than that. Connected By water is not only proud to be the official artist for this team, but also very proud to call them all friends. Coming off a fantastic 3rd place overall finish at the 2021 Jimmy Johnson tournament we found it was the perfect time to feature the whole team. South Florida radio legend and seasoned angler, Paul Castronovo, and our regular celebrity co-host, George Poveromo, paid the studio a visit in hopes to solves zero of the world’s problems. “Keep fishing!!!” With overall victory certainly in hand, the captain intensely yelled from the bridge as the remaining :44 seconds of the day ticked off the clock. However, the team already knew, by just releasing a double sailfish bite, that they had sealed the deal on taking the Day 2 daily. It was quite the epic finish for this all-star fishing team. Sometimes building a life that's Connected By Water means just adding on to a solid foundation. Meet Astrid deGruchy. She’s been fishing her entire life. She grew up spending days offshore with her dad hunting for Fluke and Stripers up in Long Island. Now she’s a full-time resident of Islamorada and loving that diverse Florida Keys fishery. For her, angling is a passion and a constant in her life that’s always been there. So has baseball. Yep, you heard me. Baseball. So when this Harvard educated snook slayer isn’t poling through the backcountry or deep dropping for Swordys, she’s casting her lines out to handle International Talent Scouting for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The hijacking of the Rapscallion has long been a story told in bits and pieces and has become the stuff of legend. For those that don’t know the tale, Captain Larry Withall and then Mate, Jason “Tiny” Walcott were abducted at gunpoint during a hired charter during a crossing over to the Bahamas. That’s the short of it. To say that the details of this narrative are intense is a gross understatement. Up until now it’s been a lore of oral tradition. Unless of course, you’re one of the rare few that has heard it from Tiny himself. Two of those fortunate gentlemen joined Tiny and I at the table in friendly support. Ladies and gentlemen I am honored to present the first ever public telling of this harrowing account on the Connected By Water Podcast. It’s been almost 25 years since the event took place, but Tiny takes us all right back there as if it happened yesterday. Are you ready for this one? Are you sure?
