  • @onePhlyQTPie | My question for Chitwan Mittal...

"That's it. And it's way more complex, and you really have to, you know, talk to your audience. I've wanted to write a book my whole life. When I was young, I wrote every letter to the editor I could. All the local newspapers, parenting magazines, 17 magazines, Sassy magazine. I was a letter to the editor junkie for one reason. I loved to see my name in print. And I used to have a trick. Now I'm 50."

"Hello Srividya. It's lovely to have your voice back in the Swell community this time talking about your latest book of poems, the Soundtrack of My Life - Part B, published by Red River Press. So I think we can start off the Q&A with a question that I had been meaning to ask ever since I read the book. The title really, really caught my attention."

  • @Ramya | Ask Srividya | Your writing process...
Click here to reply to @Ramya

"So what did your writing process look like while working on the poems in this collection? Did you start with an image, a phrase or a feeling or some other seed? And were there poems that surprised you by taking a direction you didn't quite foresee at the start? I'm really curious to know."

  • @Ramya | Ask Srividya| Imagery in the poems..
Click here to reply to @Ramya

"The imagery in your poems leans towards what's subtle and what is often overlooked. Can you perhaps talk about one or more poems in the collection that you feel best captures that? Something small, almost invisible, but emotionally resonant."

  • @Ramya | Ask Srividya | Thoughts on desire...
Click here to reply to @Ramya

"Then again, desire is another theme that comes up in these poems. Desire for the past, desire for someone, for home, for art, or for connection. Is there a poem that you feel most sharply articulates desire from this collection? Also, do you see desire, memory and defiance as working together or intentional."

  • @Ramya | Ask Srividya | Of Place, Belonging & Home
Click here to reply to @Ramya

"Thank you so much Sri Vidya for taking the time out and being a part of this Q and A on swell. I think I'll leave you with just one more question about your book. Plays and belonging crop up in subtle ways in your lines. A sense of distance, of identity, of home. How much of your cultural, geographic, linguistic background feeds into this? And how do you write about belonging in ways that are not literal."

  • @Ramya | Ask Chitwan Mittal | making complex mythical stories appealing to kids...
Click here to reply to @Ramya

"How did you balance mythic grandeur with approachable, kid friendly style of storytelling? And what elements do you intentionally use to hold a young reader's attention? I ask you this because writing for young readers is a completely different ballgame altogether, where you really need to be in their shoes. Look at a piece of writing from through their eyes and through their level of understanding to see if it clicks."
