"So when I think of my mom, I think about how she made it real simple for me to be me and still being a good mom because I didn't play with her either. Like no, I want none of this. I knew how to not get a boat. I knew I used to see my other cousins and stuff get a little butt wounds. Not too many. But I mastered not getting them. You know how just didn't. No didn't want none of that."

"And God showed me a slideshow of her life. And he showed me the times that I just wanted my mom to be happy. And he said, I've been wanting her all along and now I have her. So any grief, any sadness that I would have contributed to the loss of my mom, I couldn't. Because God erased the pain, he erased the hurt and loss."

"The memory I'm going to share is more of a cultural rather than a personal one. It comes from that absolutely iconic poster of the Indian cult classic movie Mother India, which has the main protagonist, the heroine of the film Nargis, operating the plough, assuming the role usually taken up by an ox or a bullock. But it truly presents a vibrant and vivid metaphor for what a mother does for her children. She ploughs the environment in which they are born, trying to make it ideal for them."

"You've always managed to keep our family going, despite years of dealing with illness or financial problems because of the market. Things that are very human that oftentimes really disrupt people from continuing. You always found a way to just be the best mom. You did my homework with me and helped me overcome challenges, despite the fact that you were spending all day in the hospital or you felt like crap. You constantly checked in with me at college whenever things were going south and you got a whiff of it."
