  • #CWOIM Vol 53 JAMES REIMER #TMLTalk Mar 3 2015
Toronto Maple Leafs netminder James Reimer joins Chuck Bastie and Todd Miller to talk about his charity Ramona's Reach at www.RamonasReach.com; his incredible support team including his wife April; his unlikely hockey career arc; his faith; and his support team that got him to where he is, including his parents!
We also talk about #TweetSweet, a campaign that was created to challenge students to spread positive messages through online social networks. With the rapid increase of technology, cyber-bullying has grown into a national wide issue. Social network sites are where cyber-bullying is produced but just like these sites can be used for harm, they can also be used for good. This is where #tweetsweet comes in.
By adding this hashtag to a positive tweet, picture, comment etc. said to someone else or about someone else on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook it will send out positive content out into the online community. This hashtag will help follow this movement and at random one lucky user will be rewarded with a pair of Toronto Maple Leaf tickets to a home game at the Air Canada Centre. The tickets will be given out twice a month for the remainder of the 2014-2015 season. So #tweetsweet might get you sweet seats!
As many will recall, during the 2013-2014 season April was cyber-bullied through Twitter after her husband James was not performing up to standards on the ice. Since her husband does not have a Twitter account, fans decided to take out their frustrations on her. In addition to her Twitter attack that made national news, she also had “frustrated fans” calling and texting her personal cell phone number, without identifying themselves.
In response she is taking what others intended for pain and turning it into something positive. She started the #tweetsweet campaign challenging students to say positive things online and in return using her resources to reward students for contributing to a healthy online community.

  • #MOTM Vol 53 NINA GABY #Author "Dumped" Feb 25 2015
Announcement: Nina Gaby, #author of “Dumped: Stories of Women Unfriending Women” joins Matters Of The Mind tonight at 8p EST!
Nina Gaby, editor of the the book “Dumped: Stories of Women Unfriending Women”, chats with Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller about the book , as well as other topics such as why there is an apparent difference between male and female ‘refriending’, and also chat about Patricia Arquette’s Oscar speech!
Why do women ‘dump’ other women? This book is full of candid, relatable stories by established and emerging women writers about being discarded by someone from whom they expected more: a close female friend. There are 161 million women in the USA today, and our friendships are still as primary and universal as back when Ruth and Naomi, Elizabeth and Susan B., and Thelma and Louise made history. When a romantic relationship breaks up, no problem—there’s an Adele song for that. Health concerns; problems in school; issues at the workplace? We’ve got our chums to prop us up. Until we don’t. When our most sustaining relationships dissolve—those with the women friends in our lives—there’s never been the fanfare that accompanies the loss of other relationships society deems “more important.” Until now. In Dumped: Stories of Women Unfriending Women, twenty-five established and emerging writers—including Jacquelyn Mitchard, Ann Hood, Carrie Kabak, Jessica Handler, Elizabeth Searle, Alexis Paige, and editor Nina Gaby—explore the fragile, sometimes humorous, and often unfathomable nature of lost friendship. These, like your own, are stories that stay with you—maybe for a lifetime.
Find the book on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Dumped-Stories-Women-Unfriending/dp/1631529544/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424886567&sr=8-1&keywords=dumped+women+unfriending+women

  • #MOTM Vol 52 Dr. NEIL SPECTOR #Misdiagnosis Feb 18 2015
Neil Spector is a leading oncologist at Duke University Medical Center whose terrifying misdiagnosis almost resulted in his death. His story is one of personal struggle, hope, survival and advocacy. He was in peak physical health when he began experiencing bizarre symptoms that doctors attributed to stress, but Neil suspected there was something much more serious going on. After years of inconclusive results and more than a decade of living with only 10% heart function, a series of life threatening complications resulted in heart failure. Neil even considered taking his own life after being told he had only 72 hours to live without a heart transplant. Fortunately for Neil, he survived with a miraculous heart transplant and has become an advocate for patient care and protection. In addition to his own experience from the perspective of a patient and a doctor, Neil can talk about the pitfalls of the medical system, what patients need to know to protect themselves and his medical research among other topics. Neil chronicled his experience in a new book, “Gone in a Heartbeat – A Physician’s Search for True Healing” that came out on Feb. 14.
Neil joined us to chat about the book, his incredible 11 year journey to the root cause of his health issues, as well as a few near-death experiences, where his heart rate skyrocketed and he felt the end was near, if not for a ‘warmth’ that enveloped him and made him feel safe!

  • #CWOIM Vol 51 CRAIG PATRICK #MiracleOnIce Feb 17 2015
Craig Patrick (born May 20, 1946) is an American former hockey player, coach and general manager, the son of Lynn Patrick and the grandson of Lester Patrick. During the 1980 Winter Olympics, Patrick was the Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach under Herb Brooks for the United States men’s national ice hockey team, which won the gold medal and defeated the Soviet Union in the “Miracle on Ice“. From 1989 to 2006, Patrick was the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins where he oversaw back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992, as well as the drafting and signing of some players that would later win a Stanley Cup title for the Penguins in 2009. He was the man that drafted Jaromir Jagr, Marc-André Fleury, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, otherwise known as “Sid the Kid”!!! And Craig joins Chuck Bastie and Todd Miller for a discussion of all things hockey, including his stint as Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach under Herb Brooks for the United States men’s national ice hockey team that won Gold at the 1980 Olympics and became known as the “Miracle On Ice”. And Todd suggests the Toronto Maple Leafs might need a head coach ;-)
Craig was also the general manager for the 2002 US Olympic team, also coached by Brooks, which won the silver medal – the first US hockey medal since the 1980 team. This tournament was further notable as it was largely the same roster that underperformed in the 1998 Olympics, yet aging players like Mike Richter and Phil Housley performed well beyond expectations and were named to the 2002 tournament all-star team. During both Olympic tournaments, the Team USA defeated the Soviets/Russians.

  • #CWOIM Vol 1 Mike Eruzione Team USA Captain "Miracle On Ice" Feb 27 2012
Michael Eruzione was born on October 25, 1954, to an Italian-American family in Winthrop, Massachusetts. He learned to play hockey for Youth Hockey of Winthrop as part of the GBYHL (Greater Boston Youth Hockey League). He graduated from Winthrop Senior High School in 1972, where he was captain of the varsity hockey team during his senior year. He then spent a year at Berwick Academy to fine-tune his hockey skills in a New England Prep environment. After leaving Berwick, Eruzione attended Boston University. He had initially opted for another school, but he switched to Boston after his coach forgot his name.[1] While at Boston, he averaged over twenty goals a season for four years. BU coach Jack Parker called Eruzione "Pete Rose on skates".[3]
Eruzione also played for Team USA at the 1975 and 1976 Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments. He then spent two seasons with the Toledo Goaldiggers of the International Hockey League,[4] being named the Rookie of the Year in 1978 and leading the team to the Turner Cup championship in that year. After his second year in Toledo, Eruzione, who played Forward, was named the Captain of the 1980 Olympic hockey team, scoring the winning goal against the Soviets and helping the Americans win the gold medal against Finland.[1] Eruzione's winning goal against the Soviet Union has become one of the most played highlights in American sports, and was voted the greatest highlight of all time by ESPN viewers in March 2008. And he joins "Chuck's World Of Infinite Mojo" to discuss the winning goal for Team USA at the 1980 Olympics, which became known at the "Miracle On Ice", and his journey to get there.
