    Why is important that our seniors matter? Our seniors are the fabric that holds a community together. They laid the foundation for the success of our communities, and are still a vital and important part of it’s ongoing success.     healthy, holistic living;
    fitness;
    great food ideas;

    financial fitness, tax and estate planning;
    the Scam alert, where we chat weekly with Police services about the latest and greatest scams targeting seniors;
    we talk to renovation and real estate experts to help you make your home safer, or help you decide if it’s time to downsize;
    medical experts share information to help seniors and their caregivers make informed decisions;
    musical memories, where listeners can call in to share their favourite concert memories or share a song request for something they haven’t heard in awhile and MUCH more!

  • #MOTM Vol 58 GAIL KIRSCHENBAUM Parent #Abuse Apr 29 2015
    Gayle asks, "Did you ever feel like you were born into the wrong family?" Perhaps you aren't quite like your siblings, or there are different rules for you than them. You wonder if you are adopted, as there is constant criticism about your entire being. Or your mother tells you, when you're a girl, that you were supposed to be a boy. Gary, not Gayle. Do you have childhood scars? This is the subject matter of "Look at us NOW Mother!", an amazing new film chronicling the early years right up to present day of Gayle Kirschenbaum's difficult relationship with her mother, and the process that she goes through to understand her mother's upbringing, and how it impacted her parenting style, and ultimately Gayle's well being.
    Her journey to filmmaking began with a short film called "My Nose" that was created when her mother continued to badger her to get a nose job, and she agreed to attend a consult, as long as she could document the appointment on film. She did the appointment, but the resulting short was discovered and caused quite a stir, and critics were unanimous:
    “Dazzling self-confidence.” - Washington Post
    “Hilarious romp” - Jewish Week
    “A big little movie” - Thrive
    Gayle says:
    "Audiences wanted to know how I handled my highly critical mother. After screenings audience members shared their stories. Unexpectedly, I found myself teaching people how I did it by using my “Seven Healing Tools” on how to transform abusive relationships. I soon realized, as a filmmaker who has a huge archive of footage and funny and smart mother who was agreeable, that it was my mission to tell my whole story. That’s why I made this deeply personal feature documentary, LOOK AT US NOW, MOTHER! "
    Gayle is candid about some of the things you'll see in the movie, as well as the ongoing relationship with her mother, and also discovering more about her abusive father and her father's 'henchman', her brothers. Not only did she survive this childhood trauma, she is now thriving to tell her story, after telling others' stories as a filmmaker, but endeavouring to help others now. Gayle adds:
    "As I launch this film into the world, my mission is to help others. And together with an incredible team, we will build a movement to do that and welcome your support and participation."

    Gayle will be in Toronto from May 6-8, where the movie will be screened as part of the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, here are the details:
    Friday, May 8th at 3:30pm - ROM Theater
    Sunday, May 10th (Mother's Day) at 1:00pm - Empress Walk 6

  • Vinyl Vault Jon Anderson (YES) Interview
    What can be said about vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Jon Anderson? He's been the primary voice for YES for a very long time; written some of their finer material; worked with the incredible Vangelis to create an amazing body of work; did some time with Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe; and had a very successful solo career.
    Jon joined us by phone from his lovely mountain vista home in California to open the books on his career - how and when he got his start; the wacky name of the first band he was in; that he was a lorry driver; he wanted to be a pro 'footie' player; and more.

  • RTDS Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company, Queen) Interview
    Todd Miller (Don River) from RTDS.ca sat down with Paul Rodgers, lead singer and guitarist/pianist of Free, Bad Company and Queen with Paul Rodgers, for an intimate, funny and enlightening chat on his career through the years, at Canadian Music Week! Paul talks with affection about playing The Fickle Pickle in Finsbury Park, London and meeting a guy with cool jeans, who turned out to be Paul Kossoff, and Paul told him, "'We are going to form a band, you and I...' and that's what we did, we formed Free."
    From the incomparable Free, Paul went on to form the highly successful and still-going Bad Company with Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Boz Burrell (RIP).
    Paul also was asked, and laughed about, the recurring Western themes in his music..."Ahahahahaha, funny isn't it? A working class lad from Middlesborough, an industrial town of ship building, steel works, chemicals...I don't know, it speaks of a vastness that doesn't exist in the North East of England...these vast plains where you jump on a train, and go thousands of miles..." His wife Cynthia chimed in that perhaps Paul is a closet cowboy!
    He also discussed his time with Queen, his recent Canadian citizenship, his new record and plans for the future...don't miss this fun interview!

  • #MOTM Vol 57 MIDWIFERY Patricia Harman Apr 22 2015 1
    Who knew there was so much fascinating information that could be learned from a midwife? And one that also is a USA Today bestselling one too! Patricia Harman is our guest tonight on “Matters Of The Mind” with Dr. Peter Sacco, and we touch upon what a midwife does, what kind of training they can receive (as we found out there are various kinds of midwives), how much they can actually do, the various benefits and risks of home birthing, AND…finally, we talked about her historical novels about a reluctant midwife :-) Is midwifery on the upswing and becoming more popular
    Patricia is a wealth of knowledge, and supports both the pregnant mom and her partner, almost equally. Obviously, the pregnant mom requires more direct assistance, but can be a great help to a nervous, new father about what to do and NOT to do during the birth event. Good advice :-) Also, a midwife does not replace a partner during birthing, but becomes a director of sorts, an adviser, a coach.
    We also discussed how midwives can also potentially be pseudo psychologists, therapists, coaches and more during both the prenatal time, and post natal as well, as they typically spend more time with their patients than an OB/GYN does, due to various factors, none of which is poor care, but availability as well.

  • AMP Online Traffic Court Chat Apr 22 2015
    Jason Pearce from the AMP Task Force was Todd Miller's guest today on Listen UP Talk Radio. We discussed the almost certain changes the Ontario Government will be implementing soon, doing away with the vehicular 'courts' to online only.
    Jason mentioned the current conviction rate is approximately 20%, but will likely be 100% after this is implemented, and fundamentally change the way a charged driver can challenge evidence and face their accuser. Scary stuff...

  • #MOTM Vol 56 KRISH K.S. RAM #BiPolar #Depression Apr 15 2015
    “All my life, I had been known for my mind, and now the only thing I trusted was going out of control.”—K.S. Ram
    What an inspiring guest to have on #MOTM tonight!
    Krish ‘K.S.’ Ram was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2002 and found himself suffering from depression and anxiety. After seven years of treatment through medication, rehabilitation and therapy, he was stable and functioning again. That is, until the illness came back. Upon its relapse, Krish found himself surrounded by the shambles of his home and arranged marriage. He decided to leave everything behind and search for control over his illness and life. And tonight on Matters Of The Mind with Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller, Krish shares his personal journey with insight, information and humour to dispel the stigma that Bipolar disorder, or Manic Depression as he prefers to call it. is a death sentence.
    Searching to understand and overcome his battle with bipolar disorder, Krish embarked on a three-year journey through five countries on three continents, from a village in his homeland of India, to the mysterious Wudang Mountains in China and beyond.
    Dark and emotional, yet filled with inspiration and hope, WARRIOR: The Bipolar Battle is his story of triumphing over adversity against all odds and realizing that no matter how dark it gets, no matter how low you fall, there is hope. There is a way out. His mission is to inspire and teach others who are caught in the vortex of daily struggle.
    Krish was honest, and discussed his own constant battle to get up out of bed each day, to not give up and make a difference.
