    Why is important that our seniors matter? Our seniors are the fabric that holds a community together. They laid the foundation for the success of our communities, and are still a vital and important part of it’s ongoing success. We thought it was important that seniors and their caregivers have a place to ‘go’ weekly to learn, share ideas, share experiences and create a new online community for the betterment of everyone, especially seniors.
    On “Making Our Seniors Matter” today:
    Leslie Booker from Downsize Moving & More, joins us to talk about starting the discussion about downsizing, and getting rid of clutter before moving, but Leslie and her team are certainly available last minute to get the process started;
    Kate Salhanha, lawyer, joins us to talk about power of attorney, and the earlier you start the discussion, the better;
    And Constable Claudia Wells from the Peel Regional Police Service joins Glenn Cunningham to talk Project Life Saver, to help wandering seniors in Peel Region!
    This and more on today’s Making Our Seniors Matter!
    To nominate a senior for the “Shining Senior Award”, suggest a story idea, request a song or just comment on a show segment, call us at 1-866-269-6155 Ext. 3.

  • #MOTM Vol 65 JEFF LIBERTY Jun 17 2015
    What an incredible interview today! Getting to chat with radio host, publicist and promoter, TV host and self proclaimed "if you need something sold, I can sell it!" salesman Jeff Liberty, was a true honour today. I won't type too much here, but Jeff has experienced some horrific things in his life that lead to a year long battle with depression, including losing his house, his kids into care, being placed on suicide watch, drinking to numb the pain, and more.
    We delved into his incredible journey to healing and as he says he's in 'remission' from depression, and like any other illness, always aware of his triggers, always protective of his mental health. He also takes care of his body and soul, while also practicing gratitude - just being thankful for the small things in life, like the beautiful blue sky he noticed today while on our show, and celebrating his daughter's graduation this week. It's the small stuff that counts...
    #libertyslostyear
    Jeff reaches out continuously to share his story with schools in New Brunswick and has shared the stage with Clara Hughes, another shining Canadian star in the battle to remove the stigma of mental dis-ease.
    To find out more about Jeff, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Libertyslostyear/1386442901676912?fref=ts
    We also have our weekly chat with Ellen Campbell from the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness, this week talking about 'Safe Haven', an initiative in the US to ensure that mothers that don't want their babies can drop them off safely at a hospital OR have an ambulance pick them them as "Jane Doe" and take them to hospital to deliver the babies with NO criminal charges. Ellen believes we need this here and it is legal in Canada to do this, but the policies need to be put in place in Ontario to communicate this to EMS, hospitals and law enforcement.
    Hear Jeff Liberty and Ellen Campbell on "Matters Of The Mind" with Dr. Peter Sacco at 8p EST on Wednesday by clicking the Listen Live button at the top right of the page, but if you miss it, it will be on demand Thursday, right here, or find us on iTunes podcast at https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/rtds-listen-up-talk/id910538503?mt=2

  • #MOTM Vol 64 HUBERT CROUCH Jun 10 2015
    Lovers of legal thrillers will rejoice in this gripping, timely page-turner about religious fanaticism, freedom of speech, courtroom intrigue, and high-stakes mystery. Ezekiel Shaw and his fanatical followers preach a gospel of hate, picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers, and praising God for sending America’s soldiers back in body bags. But when they disrupt the funeral of Second Lieutenant Lauren Hanson, a West Point graduate killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, hard-charging Fort Worth trial attorney Jace Forman becomes determined to put an end to their crazed crusade no matter the cost. As Jace and reporter Leah Rosen battle the odds and the clock in pursuit of justice and truth in the courts, they draw closer to uncovering a shocking conspiracy—and facing sinister forces that will stop at nothing to keep them from revealing the truth. “Religious extremism is a very dangerous and powerful force,” said Crouch. “It threatens our First Amendment rights and has been used to suppress women’s rights throughout the world (including our own country).” Blending fast-paced action with authentic courtroom drama, The Word will keep readers enthralled from its explosive prologue to nail-biting conclusion. And we chat with author Hubert Crouch about his book The Word, as well as the many themes in this book!

  • #MakingOurSeniorsMatter Vol 5 Jun 1 2015
    Why is important that our seniors matter? Our seniors are the fabric that holds a community together. They laid the foundation for the success of our communities, and are still a vital and important part of it’s ongoing success. We thought it was important that seniors and their caregivers have a place to ‘go’ weekly to learn, share ideas, share experiences and create a new online community for the betterment of everyone, especially seniors.
    On “Making Our Seniors Matter” today:
    We speak with Gary Booth from Booth Accounting about tax credits, disability credits and more!
    Also, Dr. Suzanne Cook, our resident social gerontologist, talking about social engagement for #‎seniors, including inter-generational relationships.
    And Constable Claudia Wells from Peel Regional Police Service joins Glenn in studio to talk about identity theft;
    To nominate a senior for the “Shining Senior Award”, suggest a story idea, request a song or just comment on a show segment, call us at 1-866-269-6155 Ext. 3.
