  • #MakingOurSeniorsMatter Vol 5 Jun 1 2015
    Why is important that our seniors matter? Our seniors are the fabric that holds a community together. They laid the foundation for the success of our communities, and are still a vital and important part of it’s ongoing success. We thought it was important that seniors and their caregivers have a place to ‘go’ weekly to learn, share ideas, share experiences and create a new online community for the betterment of everyone, especially seniors.
    On “Making Our Seniors Matter” today:
    We speak with Gary Booth from Booth Accounting about tax credits, disability credits and more!
    Also, Dr. Suzanne Cook, our resident social gerontologist, talking about social engagement for #‎seniors, including inter-generational relationships.
    And Constable Claudia Wells from Peel Regional Police Service joins Glenn in studio to talk about identity theft;
    To nominate a senior for the “Shining Senior Award”, suggest a story idea, request a song or just comment on a show segment, call us at 1-866-269-6155 Ext. 3.

  • #MOTM Vol 61 CMHO #MentalHealth & CCAA #Abuse May 20 2015
    Children’s mental health services in Canada, and especially in Ontario, are in crisis. Autism, addiction, depression, anxiety, suicide rates are climbing. Government funding is in some cases decreasing, as dwindling government revenues are shared amongst many priorities. That’s where the Kimberly Moran & the CMHO come in. Kimberly joins Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller tonight at 8p ET to share her story, and the story of the CMHO. As an advocate, the CMHO speaks collectively for hundreds of agencies across the province, by strengthening the financial and operating capacity of Children’s Mental Health Ontario’s member agencies; Build awareness and understanding of child and youth mental health among Ontario’s general public, government and allied professionals; Improve services and outcomes for children and youth with mental health problems; Develop the financial and organizational capacity necessary to ensure the achievement of Children’s Mental Health Ontario’s strategic plan. Kimberly as President and CEO steers the ship, providing first hand experience of navigating the waters of the mental health system in Ontario. Her story is not unique…that she decided to head up an agency that impacts so many lives, is. Click the link below to read an Op Ed in the Ottawa Citizen from May 16th:

  • #MOTM Vol 60 NANNY And ME BOOK May 13 2015
    Florence Ann Romano started working as a nanny when she was just 12 years old, and now she’s sharing those cherished memories in her debut book for children making the transition from being cared for solely by their parents to having a nanny in their home. Florence joins Dr. Peter Sacco and Todd Miller on “Matters Of The Mind” tonight at 8p ET to discuss her experience as both a nanny and now author!
    “Nanny and Me” (May 2015, Mascot Books) is a story told through the eyes of a young girl about all of the adventures she and her little brother have with their nanny. Romano modeled the nanny in her book after herself, and each scene was inspired by her personal experiences caring for children.
    Romano wants children to read “Nanny and Me” – or have it read to them – and feel a sense of excitement, peace and joy wash over them. The modern day Mary Poppins wants kids to look forward to the time they spend with their new friend, and most of all, wants them to feel loved.
    I don’t want them to be afraid or upset; or for them to think they did something wrong; or
    think that Mommy and Daddy don’t love them enough to care for them,” she says.
    “I want this transition to be a sweet one…something to look forward to and treasure; and I want the kids to understand that the nanny is an extension of their parents.”
    Romano describes a nanny as “someone who can care for your child, love your child, be invested in your child and protect your child just as you, the parent, would.”
    “The nanny is Mom and Dad’s eyes, ears and heart,”she adds. Romano hopes parents get just as much out of her book as the children, if not more.

Already practiced in Australia, the concept of “Shared Home Ownership” is growing in popularity, both abroad and throughout North America. At Solterra, we have adapted this concept to the unique requirements of senior citizens;
    Constable Wells from Peel Regional Police Service joins Glenn in studio to talk about some of the scams that are going around right now that are targeting seniors;

  • #MakingOurSeniorsMatter Vol 2 May 11 2015
    Why is important that our seniors matter? Our seniors are the fabric that holds a community together. They laid the foundation for the success of our communities, and are still a vital and important part of it’s ongoing success. We thought it was important that seniors and their caregivers have a place to ‘go’ weekly to learn, share ideas, share experiences and create a new online community for the betterment of everyone, especially seniors.
    On “Making Our Seniors Matter” today:
    Shelly Raymond from Solterra Co-housing Ltd. chats about a new idea called co-housing. Solterra Co-housing Ltd. offers an innovative alternative to shared housing options available to seniors. Already practiced in Australia, the concept of “Shared Home Ownership” is growing in popularity, both abroad and throughout North America. At Solterra, we have adapted this concept to the unique requirements of senior citizens;
    Constable Wells from Peel Regional Police Service joins Glenn in studio to talk about some of the scams that are going around right now that are targeting seniors;
    Dr. Melanie Abbott from Abbott Chiropractic joins us to talk about some great ways to make seniors stronger and help prevent falls, which can be debilitating.
    To nominate a senior for the “Shining Senior Award”, suggest a story idea, request a song or just comment on a show segment, call us at 1-866-269-6155 Ext. 3.
