De val van de Berlijnse Muur in 1989 inspireerde fotografe en journaliste Lieve Blancquaert om met een camper een epische reis door Europa te maken. Ze bezocht alle 27 lidstaten van de Europese Unie om de wortels van onze identiteit te onderzoeken. Haar doel was te ontdekken wat ons samenbindt en wat ons scheidt.
Tijdens haar vele persoonlijke ontmoetingen werd keer op keer duidelijk dat onze taal, geschiedenis, zorgen, verlangens en dromen universeler zijn dan we denken. Hoewel er niet één type Europeaan bestaat, zijn we op vele manieren met elkaar verbonden, of we dat nu willen of niet.
In honderden indringende foto's en tientallen kleurrijke verhalen legt Lieve Blancquaert, als in een reisdagboek, de complexiteit, diversiteit en schoonheid van dit kwetsbare continent vast.

Annemie De Bondt is logopedist en dyslexie-expert met jarenlange ervaring in leerstoornissen. Na een carrière als lector aan de Arteveldehogeschool werkt ze nu als zorgcoördinator in een lagere school. In 2009 schreef ze samen met jeugdauteur Luc Descamps de ‘Dyslexie Survivalgids’, een boek dat aan kinderen uitlegt wat dyslexie is. Deze gids is opnieuw uitgegeven en in een nieuw jasje gestoken. Annemie De Bondt herwerkte het samen met logopedist Marjolein Noé van een leesboek naar een doeboek. De survivalgids legt op een speelse manier aan kinderen uit welke tips en hulpmiddelen helpen als je moeite hebt met lezen, spelling, of met dingen snel oproepen uit je geheugen. Ook hoe je met dyslexie nog sterker in je eigen kracht kan staan, zowel thuis als op de schoolbanken, komt aan bod. Het boek staat echt boordevol weetjes en opdrachten.
Communicatiemedewerker Celine Camu voerde met de auteur een gesprek over leesmoeilijkheden. Meer dan de helft van onze lezers heeft als leesbeperking dyslexie. Samen met Eureka ADIBib voert Luisterpunt al meer dan 10 jaar de campagne ‘Ik haat lezen’, gericht op kinderen en jongeren met dyslexie en andere leesmoeilijkheden.

Astrid Haerens (1989) groeide op in West-Vlaanderen, maar ruilde haar geboortestreek Zwevegem in voor Brussel. Haerens schrijft proza en poëzie. In 2017 verscheen haar debuutroman ‘Stadspanters’.
Schrijven is voor haar geen koud kunstje, verklapt ze ons. Ze worstelt met woorden en elke neerslag op papier is volgens haar een poging. In het voorjaar van 2022 verscheen haar bejubelde debuutbundel ‘Oerhert’, die genomineerd werd voor de Herman de Coninckprijs 2023.
In ‘Oerhert’ wordt lichamelijkheid opgezocht, verkend, gefileerd, blootgelegd. Haerens wisselt in haar gedichten een onmiskenbare onbehaaglijkheid vakkundig af met universele thema’s als rouw en intimiteit.
Van 2022 tot 2024 is Astrid Haerens Letterzetter van Kortrijk, een alternatieve invulling van het stadsdichterschap. Daarnaast staat ze in het onderwijs als docent Literaire analyse aan het conservatorium van Antwerpen, geeft ze les aan de Educatieve Master Schrijven aan het RITCS in Brussel en werkt ze als schrijfdocent aan de academie van Anderlecht.
Astrid Haerens las ‘Oerhert’ zelf in voor onze bibliotheek op een zonnige maandagnamiddag. Luisterpuntmedewerker Nele voert met haar een gesprek over haar opmerkelijke poëziedebuut. Het interview duurt ongeveer 27 minuten.

Tülin Erkan (1988) groeide op in Oostende bij een Franstalige moeder en een Engelstalige grootmoeder. Haar zomers bracht ze door bij haar vader in Turkije. Wanneer mensen haar als half omschrijven, voelt ze zich vooral dubbel.
In haar debuutroman ‘Honingeter’ vertelt ze het verhaal van Sibel die in de luchthaven van Istanboel wacht. Elke dag opnieuw mist ze haar vlucht naar Brussel. Een zieke piloot, een zonderlinge veiligheidsagent en een drugshond vergezellen haar op haar dwaaltocht. Tülin Erkan haalde met ‘Honingeter’ de longlist van de Boekenbon Literatuurprijs, de shortlist van de Bronzen Uil, de prijs voor het beste Nederlandstalige debuut, én ze maakt nog kans op de Boon Literatuurprijs. Indrukwekkend!
Tülin Erkan las ‘Honingeter’ zelf in voor onze bibliotheek en we mochten haar verwelkomen op onze opendeurdag in december. Luisterpuntmedewerker Diego Anthoons ging met haar in gesprek over dit bijzondere boek.

De 32-jarige Siel Verhanneman begon met schrijven om het verlies van haar vader en zus te verwerken. Schrijven maakt dat ze zichzelf beter begrijpt. Wat begon met gedichten publiceren op Instagram, is gegroeid tot een oeuvre van drie dichtbundels, een roman en twee kortverhalen.
In 2016 verscheen haar eerste dichtbundel ‘Als ik stil ben heb ik een bos in mijn hoofd’. Daarin maakt ze angst, verdriet en rouw wijd bespreekbaar. De bundel verscheen eerst in eigen beheer, maar werd als snel opgepikt door uitgeverij Manteau. In 2018 schreef ze de bundel ‘Zo scherp je kon er ook niet geweest zijn’. En twee jaar later bracht ze haar eerste roman uit: ‘Of iedereen gaat dood’, een beklemmend en aangrijpend verhaal over Lander en zijn therapeute Saskia. Een tweede roman staat ondertussen op de planning.
In januari publiceerde Siel Verhanneman haar nieuwste dichtbundel, ‘Wat nu met het licht dat binnenvalt’, die ze zelf voor onze bibliotheek inlas. Luisterpunt-medewerker Celine gaat met haar in gesprek over haar werk.
Kathleen Vereecken debuteerde in 1993 met het jeugdboek ‘Het raadsel in het fluisterbos’. Het betekende het begin van een succesvolle schrijverscarrière. Negentwintig jaar later heeft Kathleen een uitgebreid oeuvre opgebouwd. Ze schrijft voornamelijk historische jeugdboeken, maar ook romans en non-fictie voor volwassenen vloeien uit haar pen. Haar werk bewijst dat jeugdliteratuur zich niet enkel beperkt tot een jong leespubliek. “Goede jeugdliteratuur is niets meer of minder dan literatuur”, verklaarde Kathleen Vereecken in De Standaard der Letteren van zaterdag 5 februari. Laten we de term ‘jeugd’ dus alvast schrappen.
