Greg and Pat share about their events of what transpired as they came together for the viewing of Kirk Cameron’s new movie, “Unstoppable”. As they were driving, Greg describes the sheets of downpour rain. As they entered the main entrance of the theatre, crowds were gathered for this viewing. Because of the slippery linoleum floors, Greg commented to nearby employees that there needs to be something done so as to avoid someone being hurt. Nobody moved in response. Greg witnessed a lady falling down and helped her up. As they continued down the hall, Greg noticed that the marquee above the theatre door did not say “Unstoppable”. In fact, it said “Prisoners”. Because of this, viewers were asking where the Unstoppable theatre is. Employees were pointing to the door, not bringing any attention to the marquee above. Greg watched as people walked in this door, under this banner, without a thought or care about it. After watching a few people stroll past, people continued to ask for clarification of which door to go through, “that one right there with the sign ‘Prisoners’ over it”, Greg responded. Again, people said nothing and they continued on with their popcorn and drinks.
Greg stopped an employee asking for him to change the sign. “No, we can’t do that” was all that he was given. Greg then asked to see the manager to be able to take the sign down and the employee said he was offended. The manager who arrived to the situation stated to Greg, “This is no way for a Christian to act….. I’m a worship leader.” You would think, that a worship leader of all people, would not allow the Church to walk under a banner of ‘Prisoners’. Again, Greg asked the manager if he would go ask if the name could be changed. The manager left and came back to say, “No. It can’t be done.” It was the fear of God causing Greg to act in such a “matter-of-fact” way and God was watching. With an additional attempt, Greg offered the idea of duct tape to simply be applied over the letters of the sign. An employee was eventually able to cover up the words of ‘Prisoners’ after climbing a ladder with the proposed duct tape. An important note- the very movie that people had paid to see was about the battle of Good and Evil and the realization of just how evil the Devil is. What the devil did to the Jews is what he is trying to do to the Church. It’s the fear of God that keeps us from doing what God says not to do ESPECIALLY when the Church is being corralled under a banner of ‘Prisoners’. Greg cautiously entered the theatre once the marquee was covered to a seat in the front row. Moments later the power went out and a theatre full of people found themselves in complete darkness in an eerily silent room. The tomes of ‘amazing grace’ began to rise from the audience in the darkness. It was time to go as Greg slipped out of his chair and back out into the hallway.
The current mindset of today’s Christianity is to do what you’re told. It is not Christian to question what you are being told to do. Remember, when religious people said lies, Jesus simply declared the truth; and the religious people felt hated because of it. Friendship with the world is hatred towards God. The fear of God should compel us to respond being mindful of God and not of man.
