  • 096: Are You Ready to Launch a Podcast?

Turning on the mic is the easy part, but knowing where your listener goes next is what makes a podcast grow.

I’m breaking down the five things I want every business owner to have in place before hitting publish: knowing your listener journey, having somewhere to send them, keeping 10 episode ideas in the bank, finding a rhythm you can actually keep, and removing the barriers that make you want to quit. I share why I launched my own show without guests for months, what happened when a client launched without a backlog of ideas, and why a call to action needs to be repeated for weeks, not mentioned once. Whether your podcast is for visibility, vetting clients, or a short authority series, these readiness pieces apply.

If you’re thinking about launching, or your current show feels stuck, this is your checklist. Book a call with me and let’s find out if you’re podcast-ready....

  • 095: Do You Really Need Video for Your Podcast? My Real YouTube Stats

Everyone keeps saying video is the only way to grow a podcast, so I spent my summer putting that idea to the test with real numbers.

For 12 weeks, I published my Friday Podcast Basics episodes as full video on YouTube, while the same audio went out through Captivate and my RSS feed pulled a static cover art version onto YouTube too. I’m laying out the actual stats side by side: 701 Captivate downloads, 599 YouTube RSS views, and 264 video views. You’ll hear which episodes stood out, the one outlier I still can’t explain, and why I’ve decided to keep audio as my main pillar content and save video for tutorials and special extras.

If video feels like a barrier, audio still works, and the data backs it up.

  • 094: Productivity and Time Tools for Busy Podcasters with Michelle Oucharek-Deo

You get 168 hours every week, no more and no less, so what is quietly eating yours?

Productivity coach and creative arts therapist Michelle Oucharek-Deo, host of Your Productivity Pulse, joins me for a conversation that went off script within minutes thanks to a leaf blower right outside my window, and we kept rolling because that is real life. Michelle shares her simple formula, intention plus accountability equals productivity, and the very personal story behind it. When her son's rugby injury stopped her world, it led her to give up solo screen time and create the 42 minute hour. We also talk about time barriers versus time disruptors, why doom scrolling shows up so clearly on a 48 hour accountability sheet, and the power of mini goals. Michelle also shares how she reached 526 downloads in 14 countries in her first 90 days by referencing past episodes and letting people know her show exists.

Your time is your energy, and how you spend it is a choice you can make with intention. Pick one mini goal from this conversation and give it a home somewhere in your week.

  • 092: Plan Your Podcast Content Before the Busy Season Hits

Fall is bringing busier calendars, and Kim has a formula for making sure your podcast does not fall apart when life gets in the way.

Recording outside on her patio, Kim talks through why batch recording shorter, single-topic episodes now is the best insurance against a packed October through December, whether that busyness comes from holidays, travel, or an unexpected cold. She digs into why repetition is the real engine behind sales, tracing the classic seven touches rule back to her own marketing school days and showing how it plays out today through newsletters, social posts, and podcast episodes that mention an offer again and again rather than just once. She also shares a practical way to work calls to action and dynamic ads into episodes without tripping the ad detection that some podcast apps use to skip anything bookended by music.

The takeaway is simple. Plan your next few months of offers now, batch the episodes that support them, and let repetition do the work of turning listeners into buyers.

  • 091: How Women Can Take Their Power Back From AI with Mara Bolis

Most women I know feel a quiet unease about AI, and it turns out that unease might be the smartest thing about them.

I sit down with Mara Bolis, founder of First Prompt and a fellow at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center, to talk about her framework called fierce ambivalence, the idea that women's hesitation toward AI is risk awareness, not risk aversion. We get into why women feel behind or even guilty for using these tools, what the real story is behind AI's water and energy use, and why staying on the sidelines means handing the future over to a small group of decision makers who do not represent us. Mara also shares practical ways to start using AI with agency, from turning on privacy settings to using it as a thought partner grounded in your own domain expertise.

This conversation left me thinking differently about my own relationship with these tools, and I think it will do the same for you. Pull up a chair, because this is a conversation every woman in business needs to hear.

  • 090: Podcast Growth Strategies Beyond Social Media

You do not need to live on social media to grow a thriving podcast audience.

Kim opens up about her own tenuous relationship with social media and offers listeners full permission to feel the same way. She walks through a long list of alternatives that get a show in front of more ears without daily posting, including leaning on SEO rich titles and descriptions, guesting on other people's podcasts, building and owning an email newsletter list, mentioning the podcast in every networking conversation, business card, and Zoom background, creating playlists that point new listeners to the right starting episode, and doing promo swaps with other podcasters. She also touches on paid ads, writing guest articles, and treating your website as an authority hub that search engines and AI can crawl.

Kim reminds listeners that growth does not have to mean posting every day, and that every one of these tools works whether or not social media is part of the plan. She closes by inviting anyone with a strategy she did not mention to reach out and possibly come on the show as a guest.

  • 089: Podcast Basics: Summer Wrap up

Twelve weeks, twelve podcast basics, and one big recap of everything you need to launch or level up your show.

Kim Parkinson closes out her summer long Podcast Basics series by walking back through every topic she covered, from choosing simple gear and recording software to picking a hosting platform, designing cover art that actually gets noticed, and editing with Descript, Audacity, and her favorite secret weapon, Auphonic. She touches on the optional role of music, why video is a tool rather than a requirement, how Cast Magic can speed up transcription and content repurposing, why show notes are your podcast's SEO footprint, and why tracking stats and analytics might be the most important habit of all. Whether you are brand new to podcasting or already publishing and looking to level up, Kim breaks down where to start and what to prioritize first.

She reminds new podcasters that done is better than perfect and encourages seasoned podcasters to audit their show for small tweaks that could make a big difference. Kim wraps the series by inviting listeners into the Podcast Growth Accelerator for ongoing support and promises a full recap of how the summer series performed on YouTube in the coming weeks.

  • 088: Why Repeating Your Podcast Topic Is Your Secret Growth Strategy

One small tweak to what you talk about on your podcast can turn a casual listener into an $80,000 client.

Kim Parkinson revisits the story of Kristy Ouellette, whose consistent focus on one message eventually led a longtime listener to book an $80,000 vacation package once Christy mentioned a service she rarely talked about. Kim uses this as a launching point to challenge listeners to look at everything they offer, not just their main service, and to talk about those extra offerings on the podcast even if only occasionally. She shares her own example of quietly offering video and audio production and reel creation for clients, services she rarely promotes but that have surprised past clients who didn't realize she offered them. The throughline is that repetition is not redundant. Saying the same core message and revealing the different facets of a business across many episodes gives listeners more chances to recognize themselves in what is being said and reach out at the right moment.

Kim encourages podcasters to audit their content, keep episodes focused on one topic at a time, and repeat that message across a stretch of episodes so it truly lands with the right person. She closes by reminding listeners to keep their call to action clear and consistent, and to check out Kristy's full story in episode 86.

  • 087: Podcast Basics: Why Your Podcast Show Notes Need More Than Two Sentences

Two sentences and a naked link are not a show notes strategy, they are a missed opportunity.

Keyword rich show notes are your podcast's text footprint, the searchable, indexable companion that Google, Bing, and even AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can actually crawl and cite, something your audio itself can never be. Kim breaks down what a real show summary should include: a strong keyword filled hook, a paragraph that expands on the topic, a naked link as your call to action, and for longer episodes, timestamps that let listeners jump straight to the good stuff. She also covers why writing for the human first (and the algorithm second) still wins, and how AI tools like Castmagic can speed up the process as long as you edit what they spit out.

Show notes are never too late to fix, and as AI search keeps evolving, the ones you write today only become more valuable tomorrow. Start with your most recent episode, work backward, and treat every show note as a small, findable extension of your voice.
