Most people overthink, procrastinate and don't launch their podcast or episode because they're trying to make everything perfect. It needs to SOUND perfect. The cover art needs to LOOK perfect. Everything needs to be exactly RIGHT.

But here's the thing: My very first episode was recorded on a Sony PlayStation mic. My first guest episode sounded like it was recorded in a fishbowl. And yet… I still released them.

Maybe that was blind innocence.. But honestly, I'm glad I did.

What I want to share with you today, shortly and sweetly, is why good enough should be the bar in podcasting, not perfection.

This episode is a reminder that podcasting is something you grow into. Your voice gets clearer. Your confidence builds. Your process gets better.

But none of that happens if you're waiting for perfect.

Burnout doesn't always mean you need to quit your podcast. And it also doesn't mean you need to push through at all costs. Sometimes the most responsible and creative choice is to pause. That's the topic of this week's short episode.

This episode focuses on what happens when you have already adjusted, simplified, shortened, batched, repurposed, or scaled back and it still feels heavy. That does not mean you are doing podcasting wrong. It means your system needs rest. That's it.

Some pauses come with guilt (ask me how I know). Others felt like a deep exhale. What I learned firsthand is that a pause is not a failure. It is not proof you could not hack it, work hard enough, or stick with it long enough.

A pause can be a mental health boundary. It can be a response to burnout. It can create space when your direction is shifting or when life, work, caregiving, or health tightens your schedule. When adjustments are no longer enough, pausing is often the most honest and supportive choice.

Yep. Been there.

Comparison is normal. Comparison is also a confidence killer if you let it take over.

Back in 2008, when I was hosting my very first show, A Virtual Perception, I felt so proud of what I was building. Then another podcast launched with almost the same premise. Suddenly, I was wondering if I'd been "replaced," if they were doing it better, and if anyone even needed my voice anymore.

Looking back now? I wish someone had said: There is room for everyone.

Even when two podcasters cover similar topics, your voice, lived experience, energy, and perspective are completely your own. Listeners connect with you because you're you.

I want to take a moment to talk about something that trips up so many podcasters (myself included): stats/analytics.

Whether you're new to podcasting or have been doing this a long time, it's easy to get caught up in the numbers… and what does it all even mean?

After 17 years in podcasting, here's what I know for sure:

👉 Stats matter, to a point. 👉 Stats also don't matter, at all.

Think of stats like having an umbrella when the forecast calls for rain. It's smart to have on hand, but you don't need to open it every five minutes "just in case." Stats are a tool: not something to obsess over daily. Constantly crunching numbers will make you batty (trust me, I've been there).

Here's where stats do matter:

• To see what topics resonate most with your audience: check which episodes are getting the most listens to guide what content to create, promote, or replay.

• To track your growth: even if it's just going from 1 listener to 3. (Yes, that's a win!) Growth is often a slow burn.

• If you're looking to work with sponsors: clean, consistent stats are key.

But here's what I really want you to hear: Even if 2 or 3 people are listening, that's 2 or 3 real people you're reaching. That's impact. That's connection. That is what matters.
