  • Community Tides ~ 8/04/26

Each month, KPTZ’s Chris Bricker joins co-host Siobhan Canty, President and CEO of Jefferson Community Foundation to explore new developments and paradigms with our vibrant communities of creative and innovative citizens who do good work. Our focus today is on the community of Brinnon.  Brinnon is a small, scenic community located here in Jefferson County, situated on the western shore of Hood Canal. Brinnon had a population of 907 at the 2020 census and is known for its quiet, rural atmosphere and abundant access to Olympic Peninsula outdoor recreation as well as a gateway to our National Park. Well, a lot has happened since that 2020 census, and here to tell us about it are Andrew Schwartz, Executive Director of the North Hood Canal Chamber of Commerce, and Robert Gash, community organizer and member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

  • Brewocracy Now ~ 8/06/26

KPTZ’s Taylor Clark was joined by Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro for his last appearance on KPTZ as a co-host. Taylor had some heartfelt observations and John reflected the importance of open and honest dialogue in moving us forward as a community. This is perhaps Taylor’s favorite Brewocracy Now ever.

  • (Airdate: August 4, 2026) We’re in Xinjiang Province, far above the people’s end of Heaven Lake. It took us two and a half hours to get here on horseback, and we were in no hurry to leave these beautiful meadows and mountain streams. On the way back there was some kind of quiet competition between our mounts. They were amazing horses for whom the word stumble didn’t exist!…

  • County Public Health Report ~8/03/26

This Month, Willie Bence, DEM led off with an update on the fire around Spokane. Both he and Dr. Allison Berry talked about the strain this puts on the entire state including info about a VA Hospital that was evacuated there. As for smoke reports, the smoke due in Western WA will be mostly in the I-5 corridor. Sensitive groups, If smoke does arrive here, should get inside with a room that has an air purifier, but if that’s not possible, a makeshift air-filter can be made with a 20×20 box fan and a furnace filter or two, (even four!)

Dr. Berry also spoke about iceberg lettuce, fruits, and other vegetables and said cyclospora outbreaks are NOT here in Washington and offered tips on how to avoid it entirely (mostly)

Click here to see a very thorough presentation about wildfire smoke on the from the county website:
