  • Introducing the #Author Series
Whenever you see an episode that begins with #author you know that I’m either talking directly with one of your favorite authors, getting their behind the scenes life and backstory or I’m sharing with you a crazy interesting story I found out about an author.
These episodes are meant to give the story behind the story and would make great listening for a listen and response station in the classroom.
Hear the incredible stories of how the authors you love came to be or came to write your favorite stories.

Thank you Amy Bowlin and Holland Webb and My co-guest Cassie Johansen :)

You can sub to Afterword by searching "The Afterword Podcast" in your podcast player.
The Afterword Podcast is the mutant brainchild of the people who inhabit theafterword.co.uk community blog - a lifeboat launched from the wreckage of The Word Magazine blog - RIP.

  • #Writer Anthology Publishing for New Writers w/ Pixie Forest

Writers don’t pay to be published.

    Publishers pay you.

It’s simple. And in the writing world at large, it’s well known.

But for many new authors, the allure of “Your manuscript’s amazing; we can’t wait to help you become a successful author for only X.99” it can be a trap.

Thankfully there’s Jensen Reed, one of a growing number of small publishing house owners committed to the growth of the writing community and making sure authors are being paid.

I met Jensen through Writing Bad a group ProWritingAid calls “Best Facebook Group for Writers.”

In this episode we talk about the writing process, submitting for publication, running a publishing company, and the difference between a love story and the romance genre

  • #Podcasting Hosting Hallmark's Kids Book Podcast w/ Emily Akins
In the book End of Your Life Book Club, author Will Schwalbe recounts the final days of his mother's life, and sharing books with her.
This was the inspiration for Emily Akins’ new podcast Beginning of Your Life Book Club. What Will was able to have with his mother through books at the end of her life is what Emily wants as a mother for her kids at the beginning of theirs.
There may be no one adding more to the kids book podcasting community right now than Emily.
Emily is the editorial director at Hallmark, and recipient of the Barbara Marshall Award, which grants one member of the creative community a 6-month sabbatical to pursue personal work. Emily’ project: her podcast which is now up to 6 episodes and has interviewed Will Schwalbe, Kelly Baker, and Daniel Miyares.
In this episode, I talk with Emily about her move from Hallmark into kid lit, the goals she has for her show, and how it's bringing value to the creative community.
Beginning of Your Life BookClub, which you should definitely subscribe to:
