Today’s poem is “Leonard ” by Deborah Cummins. Deborah is the author of an essay collection, Here and Away: Discovering Home on an Island in Maine , and two collections of poetry, Counting the Waves and Beyond the Reach . She lives in Deer Isle and Portland.

David is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA Poetry Program, David Sloan teaches at Maine Coast Waldorf High School in Freeport. His debut poetry collection— The Irresistible In-Between —was published by Deerbrook Editions in 2013.

Today’s poem is “My Punishment” by the late Vermont poet David Budbill. David was the author of ten books of poems, as well as novels, plays short stories, and a libretto for opera. His last book of poems Tumbling Toward the End , was published posthumously in 2017.

Today’s poem is “From Away” by Sylvester Pollet. who died in 2007. He taught writing at the University of Maine.

Today’s poem is “The Night Tide” by Kate Barnes. Kate was Maine’s first poet laureate and the author of four books of poems. She was the daughter of two writers, Elizabeth Coatsworth and Henry Beston. Kate grew up in Massachusetts and spent summers at her parents’ Chimney Pond Farm in Nobleboro.

Today’s poem is “Mappings” by Burton Hatlen. Burt was for many years Professor of English and Director of the National Poetry Foundation at the University of Maine (now renamed the Center for Poetry and Poetics) Born in California's Central Valley on a small apricot farm, he moved to Maine in 1968. He died in 2008 at the age of 71.
