Mt. Mortar is not kind to Professor Oak or Derik and Paul Wall, as it turns out. Ceci and Astrid make it easily from Olivine City to Mahogany Town, while Derik and Paul Wall have some mishaps in between. Once everyone reconvenes in Mahogany Town, it becomes abundantly clear that Team Rocket is up to no good once again. Astrid gets tricked by the toll gate to the Lake of Rage, while Derik rails against Butt Munch and Minor Arcana once again. Paul Wall and Astrid both encounter a shiny red Gyarados AND Dragontamer Lance. Our trainers battle for their sixth badge against Jasmine at the Olivine City Gym, and Field Correspondent Gabby scores a follow-up interview with the magnificent Lance.

What a whirlwind this episode is! Professor Oak is indisposed at the National Park, so Derik and Ceci lead our trainers through our hometown of Goldenrod City. Derik is snarky about all the "touristy" sites, Astrid (unsurprisingly) bonds with the Pokemon Friendship Rater, Ceci tries to impress the trainers with a tour of the Goldenrod Radio Tower and is foiled by a mysterious external security force, and Paul Wall is really only interested in the Bug-Catching Contest beyond the city.
