Police files remain out of grasp despite state action

March 10, 2022 - Democratic lawmakers and then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo amended state law in 2020 to make police disciplinary records more accessible to the public, but police departments have pushed back against the law and found some judges to support their obfuscation. We talked with attorneys from the New York Civil Liberties Union about legislation that would clarify the intent of the original transparency effort in order to improve the implementation of the transparency measure.
