Liz Kurantowicz is Principal of The Drury Group, a full-service, national, public affairs firm headquartered in Connecticut. Liz is a professional strategist with over fifteen years experience reaching all levels of government, politics, non-profit and corporate public affairs. ​Liz’s work includes a career of fundraising, campaign management and cause related strategy and development for organizations large and small touching all fifty states. As a result of her work and expertise, Liz has served as a political analyst for television, radio, print and digital media both locally in Connecticut and in outlets around the country.

Today, Liz joins me to talk about how to get republican women to run. She explores the problems that often hinder republicans from winning elections, emphasizing the bitterness of the primaries as a major culprit. She notes that we republicans tend to be our own worst enemy, and she explains why being involved in politics is tough for everyone, but especially women. She goes into the challenges women face in politics and shares her input on the effects of political involvement on the politician’s family, both positive and negative. We talk about why men need to be aggressive about empowering women, discuss the importance of fundraising, note that women’s interests and knowledge aren’t limited to reproductive choice and education, and explain why this is not a male-female problem.

June Cutter is running for the California State Assembly this year to be a real voice in the community in Sacramento, California. She is an accomplished attorney, small business owner, and mom. Her community involvement began at the local elementary school, where she served as president of the PTA from 2018 to 2020. She currently serves as president of the statewide California Women’s Leadership Association, which helps women launch as leaders in politics, government, and within the community. The daughter of Korean immigrants, she was born and raised in southern California.

Today, June joins me to hammer home the point that all issues are women’s issues. We talk about how the primary season differs from state to state, and she offers her thoughts on the oil situation. We talk about why women are what’s needed, and we emphasize that women are not just concerned with reproductive rights. We note the importance of voting in local elections, discuss why we need both parties, and explain why the answer to our problems isn’t extremism. We talk about how we can get more women interested in running for office, as well as why women shouldn’t need to masculinize themselves to do so.

Today, Nicole and I talk about election season. We discuss the problem with idolizing your candidate, and she notes that you shouldn’t agree with your candidate on everything. I point out that elected officials aren’t celebrities. We discuss the hypocrisy of the left and point out that, though members of the right can be hypocrites too, left wing hypocrites are rarely called out on their hypocrisy. We discuss why running for office may be for you, we talk about the importance of fundraising, and we note that asking for money gets easier the more you do it.

It’s possible to be a woman and a conservative. Many people are surprised to hear this: for some reason, the idea is out there that to be a republican is to hate women. I find this idea offensive, and in this episode, I talk about why you should too.

Today, I talk about the myth that women should be Democrats. I ask why our anatomy should define our political beliefs, and I note that women are able and allowed to have opinions about more issues than just reproductive rights. I list the reasons I find the assumption that I’m a Democrat offensive, and I note that everyone wants to hear a woman’s take on politics--until they find out she’s conservative.

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer recently announced his plans to retire, and President Biden announced his plans to replace the Justice with a black woman. While I don’t have anything against a black woman filling the position, I do have a problem with our tendency to choose nominees based on anything other than qualifications.

Today, I talk about why we need to hire based on qualifications. I explain why, rather than empowering women and people of color, hiring by identity degrades and insults them.
