Political Roundup, and Financial Advice: Wednesday’s Show (April 26, 2017)

Listen Later

It’s time again for our weekly political roundup and analysis of national, state and local political stories — with an eye toward how they might affect Houston and Texas.
This week, we discuss Congress coming back this week from its spring recess, the 100-day milestone of Donald Trump’s presidency, growing tensions with North Korea, and proposed legislation that would end local regulation of ride-hailing companies.
Joining us for this week’s discussion are: Jay Aiyer, of Texas Southern University and co-host of Houston Public Media’s new podcast Party Politics; Elizabeth Simas, from the University of Houston; and Andrew Schneider, politics and government reporter for News 88.7
Also this hour…
Personal Finance
From time to time on this program, we offer you an opportunity to get some basic questions answered about your own life – from healthcare for you and your loved ones, to the latest technology impacting your life, to the care and feeding of your pets, to the topic for this portion of the program: personal finance.
We welcome your questions about everything from budgeting, to investing, to saving for a rainy day, to the importance of couples having joint involvement in family finances as we talk with certified financial planner Bryan Zschiesche, a partner and financial adviser at Houston-based Financial Synergies.
Dengue Fever
When the Los Angeles band Dengue Fever got together, the group set out to resurrect an obscure, often forgotten form of Cambodian rock — and to do it in the US. Needless to say, it started off as an experiment, but it lead to a successful career and critical success in the World and Indie music scenes.
The band performs tomorrow night (April 27, 2017) at Walter’s Downtown. So, we thought it would be a good time to revisit Michael Hagerty’s 2014 conversation with a couple of the band’s members who described how they found the one key element that gave them the credibility to perform Cambodian rock, both in the US and in Cambodia.
