1:20 - The FBI raided former President Trump’s home--the Mar-Lago on Monday, as part of an investigation involving the handling of presidential and classified documents.
According to several sources at the New York Times, the National Archives believes that Trump brought back classified material that was marked as national security information. So in order to corroborate whether or not Trump had any documents in his possession, they raided his home and according to Trump, broke into his safe.
Democrats are convinced that Trump is guilty of what he has been accused of, whether it's these supposedly stolen documents or spearheading the January 6th riots.
In response, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy came out and tweeted “the Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization. When Republicans Take Back House, we will conduct immediate oversight in this department. Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar.” The FBI remains an independent agency but is responsible to the Attorney General Merrick Garland, who is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of President Joe Biden.
So far, the raid has not found or recovered any substantive evidence to prove that he had taken classified material as the National Archives have claimed.
16:30 - A Federal Appeals Court allows the US House to obtain former President Trump’s Tax Returns from the IRS. The House Ways and Means Committee voted to request these tax returns which the appeals court supported in a 3-0 vote to allow. Donald Trump has been firmly against the releasing of his tax returns since 2015 before he ran for President.
31:50 - Primary Election Updates, Arizona, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, and Michigan
34:35 - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is managing expectations about how many Senate seats are likely to flip in the midterm election after Trump-backed candidates have been winning overwhelmingly in the current GOP Primary season.
38:30 - The US Senate narrowly passes their election-year economic package with a vote of 51-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaker vote. The estimated $740 billion package heads next to the House, where lawmakers are poised to deliver on Biden’s priorities.
54:35 - President Biden signed the CHIPS Act this Tuesday intended to relieve the pandemic-era computer chip shortage. This will mark one of the president’s greatest legislative accomplishments since entering the White House, which Democrats claim could be a major boost for his re-election bid. Biden coughs through the entire CHIPS signing speech only one day after exiting self-isolation.
