  • 41: Bill Kristol
Clay Aiken is joined by Bill Kristol of The Bulwark, Defending Democracy Together, constitutionalgovt.org, and Conversations with Bill Kristol, to take on the aftermath of the Trump administration and examine how our country can come together after the elections.  How do we restore the imperatives of our constitutional government?  Is Biden the vehicle that will allow us all to come together?  And does the future of our country lie with MAGA or on turning over a new page?
Guest:Bill Kristol has been a leading participant in American political debates and a widely respected analyst of American political developments for three decades. Having served in senior positions in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations, Kristol understands government from the inside; as a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, he has studied American politics and society from the outside. After serving in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, Kristol founded The Weekly Standard in 1995 and edited the influential magazine for over two decades. Now, as founding director of Defending Democracy Together, an organization dedicated to defending America’s liberal democratic norms, principles, and institutions, Kristol is in the midst of the national debate on issues ranging from American foreign policy to the future of the Republican Party and the meaning of American conservatism. Kristol frequently appears on all the major television talk shows, and also is the host of the highly regarded video series and podcast, Conversations with Bill Kristol. Kristol received his undergraduate degree and his Ph.D. from Harvard University.

  • 38: John Iadarola
Clay Aiken is joined by one of HTH’s first guests, John Iadarola of The Young Turks and The Damage Report, to take a look at where the country’s gone since the early episodes and what to look for going into 2021.  Is Biden the great progressive hope now that it looks like Trump is headed out of office, or will the left be let down again?  More important, after a divisive election, how do we bring the opposing poles of our politics closer together?

    Guest:
John Iadarola is the host of The Damage Report and also produces and co-hosts the live primetime news show, The Young Turks, where his calm demeanor and understated humor provide the perfect foil to Cenk Uygur. He is also the creator of ThinkTank, TYT Network’s second-most popular show on YouTube, boasting an avid following of nearly 1.2 million subscribers while tallying more than 400 million views.  After earning his BA in Political Science at the University of Connecticut, John abandoned a promising career in academia, lured away from a Ph.D program in Government at the University of Texas to join The Young Turks in LA to talk about news and politics and — just maybe — become a bona fide YouTube celebrity.
John is, he acknowledges, one of the bigger nerds at TYT – an unapologetic board game enthusiast, volleyball aficionado and krav maga practitioner who spends what little free time remains streaming video games on Twitch and playing with his dog, Helo.  John brings his passion for politics to every on-air appearance, whether discussing the threat posed to democracy by a Donald Trump presidency, the corrosive effect of money in politics, the critical next steps for the rising progressive movement awakened by the Bernie Sanders campaign — virtually any subject dominating the headlines or trending in your timeline, John will have an opinion — and the facts to back it up.

Clay is joined by Anna Paulina Luna to talk about the experience of running for Congress, what to expect from her and the Republican Party, the state of the election results and whether 2021 will be the year when we finally start to get along.  But first we’ll have to collectively decide on a winner.  Can we?
    Host:
Clay Aiken has sold 6 million albums, authored a New York Times bestseller, and ran for Congress in North Carolina in 2014.
    Guest:
Anna Paulina Luna ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Florida's 13th Congressional District. She is a strong independent leader, earning her stripes by serving her country, not by serving herself. Raised by a single mother in Southern California's low-income neighborhoods, Anna learned that she must work hard and be independent to succeed. Anna joined the Air Force at age 19, earning the Air Force Achievement Medal. She spent a total of six years in the military, including five on active duty. She is a small business owner with a degree in Biology. Her husband, Andy, is a special forces operator at MacDill Air Force Base.  They met in the Air Force and live in St. Petersburg.
