Politics and Faith Archives - Stand Up For The Truth Podcast

Mary welcomes back JB Hixson to kick off the New Year with a look at the constant state of cultural wars we find ourselves in. Ever take an inventory on what we are all fighting since Trump’s administration and the Covid mischief? It’s a long list: supply chain wars, farming, healthcare and medicine shortages; border wars, ballot wars, gender wars, appliance wars. And what car will you drive if you can even go anywhere? Currency wars and ideological/spiritual wars, privacy wars, and finally, war against God’s people both the root and the graft. No wonder we’re tired, we are in the fight of our lives over tyranny and our nation. Join us for a lively discussion.

Origianal air date: 8/25/23 Jeff Weigand and Mary Danielsen discuss the progressive politics at the State level as seen in liberal bastion Madison, Wisconsin. Jeff is Dane County Board Supervisor and a lone conservative voice. While he does enjoy a spot on the catbird seat with which to view the hammer of progressive politics, he also has to deal with radical agendas while standing firm on his own Christian worldview. We will be talking about what it takes to glorify God in such a position and learn just how Madisonian politics affects the state and the nation. While not in the top 20 of liberal cities, Madison and surrounding towns are a microcosm of the liberal pockets around the nation.

Jeff and his wife and 5 children live in the Madison area and attend Calvary Chapel Madison.

James Spencer, President of the D.L. Moody Center, talks to Mary Danielsen about balancing politics with the Great Commission and what it means to find our identity in Christ. More and more, Christians are allowing politics to shape their worldview and the practices of the church, causing divisions among the brethren. There may come a time that we need to ask ourselves if we have become disciples of a particular political tribe rather than disciples of Christ – at the very least measurable in the amount of time we spend on either.

In his thoughtful article, “Render to God what is God’s: Reflecting Christ in Politics”, James says, “When God’s people take up causes, we run the risk of those causes distorting our vision of God. We run the risk of justifying our pursuit of the cause by making the cause an idol and tying God to it. When this happens, we no longer act as if we believe that His ways are beyond our ways, or that His thoughts are beyond our thoughts. God conforms to us. We then determine how the problems we face must be solved and God no longer directs. He becomes a resource rather than a ruler.”   Join us for a timely chat on what it means to count all things loss for the excellence of knowing Christ.

JB Hixson is back to chat with Mary Danielsen about the priniciples we can incorporate into our understanding of the times, ie, how to sort through the daily deluge of info that most of us use to interpret our world.  How to watch, how to read, how to hear – and how to filter everything through Scripture and the knowledge that the “whole world is under the sway of the wicked one.” (1John 5:19). However bad you might think the state of the world is, it’s much worse, and this should help us stay awake at all times, or maybe just make us lose sleep! We talk about illusions in politics and history and just about anything is fair game regarding the Left/Right political paradigm that rules the United States.

Mary Danielsen chats with Debbie Wuthnow, president of iVoterguide about the new era of global elections through Ai. There is no doubt that Ai will change elections, but how exactly? iVoter Guide researches thousands of candidates on every governmental level and allows voters to make informed choices according to the issues that are dear to the hearts of believers. As chaotic as election cycles have become, Ai promises to muddy the waters of democratic elections considerably from this time forward.

In the second half of the podcast, we look at the context for today’s war in Israel and why it is so important to stay awake and alert to the developments there.
