  • Christian Doctrine (80): The Church and State
This instructional sermon examines the theological relationship between the church and the state, arguing that while both are institutions ordained by God, they possess distinct spheres of authority. The speaker contends that the state's primary role is to maintain civil order and enforce the second table of the law through natural law, whereas the church is responsible for promoting religion and enforcing both tables of the law through spiritual discipline. By analyzing historical confessions and biblical texts, the lesson distinguishes between the temporal peace provided by the magistrate and the eternal righteousness offered by the church. The preacher emphasizes that Christians should submit to governing authorities, pray for them, and engage in the political process to promote moral good, while recognizing that the state does not have the authority to dictate matters of faith or conscience.

  • 26 Woe to Ariel
This sermon examines the second woe in Isaiah, focusing on God's judgment against Jerusalem and the futility of relying on human alliances rather than divine protection. The exposition highlights the historical siege by Assyria and the spiritual blindness of the people, who sought political refuge in Egypt instead of trusting in the Lord. The message connects these ancient events to future eschatological conflicts, illustrating that all nations opposing God's city will ultimately fail like a dream. The preacher emphasizes the necessity of living by faith, contrasting the shame of worldly reliance with the joy and clarity that come from hearing God's word. The central call is for believers to abandon their own schemes and embrace the truth, allowing the Holy Spirit to open their eyes to divine wisdom.

  • “No King? What Now? - What Happens When There Is No King” | Judges 19
Judges 19 is one of the darkest chapters in all of Scripture, and it carries a warning that is just as relevant today as it was in ancient Israel. The repeated phrase throughout the book of Judges, that there was no king in Israel and everyone did what was right in his own eyes, is not a political observation but a spiritual diagnosis. Every villain in this chapter is one of God's own people, which reveals how far a nation can fall when God is no longer recognized as the true authority. Israel was called to be a blessing to the nations, set apart and distinct, but instead became indistinguishable from the culture around them. The same danger exists for followers of Christ today. When self becomes the standard, there is no limit to how far things can fall. But this dark chapter ultimately points us toward the King we desperately need. That King is Jesus Christ, who sacrifices Himself for His people rather than sacrificing His people for Himself.

  • The Parable of the Wheat and Tares
This sermon examines the parable of the wheat and the tares to distinguish the popular narrative of an earthly, political kingdom from the spiritual reality revealed by Jesus. It explains that the Son of Man sows good seed among the world's lost sinners, while the devil sows tares, resulting in a mixed community that persists until the end of the age. The text emphasizes that final separation occurs at the harvest, where angels remove all offenses and lawless offenders, casting them into eternal judgment, while the righteous shine in the Father's kingdom. The preacher urges listeners to urgently examine their own hearts to ensure they are true citizens of God's kingdom rather than secret hypocrites, highlighting the necessity of continuous faith and repentance. This message serves as a sobering call to verify one's standing before God, particularly in the context of the Lord's Supper, by relying on God's grace rather than human merit.

  • Beware of Covetousness
This sermon examines the parable of the rich fool in Luke 12 to address the sin of covetousness, defining it as desiring what God has not given and identifying it as a form of idolatry. The message clarifies that Jesus' first coming was for salvation rather than earthly political rule, correcting the misconception that He should arbitrate civil disputes. It challenges listeners to examine their hearts, recognizing that covetousness often disguises itself as financial security or legitimate goals, and serves as the basis for breaking God's law. The central call is to stop measuring life by material abundance and instead seek the kingdom of God, trusting in His provision rather than fearing for one's own security. The tone is convicting and pastoral, urging immediate repentance and a shift in perspective from earthly treasures to eternal riches.

  • Mark 12:28-34
The sermon explores the Great Commandment found in Mark 12, presenting it as a concise summary of Christian duty amidst the overwhelming complexity of religious law. It examines the theological depth of the Shema, highlighting the unity of the Trinity through the Hebrew concept of oneness, and calls for total devotion to God with heart, mind, soul, and strength. The message extends this love to neighbors and even enemies, challenging cultural and political misinterpretations of biblical ethics by urging believers to pursue perfection as a reflection of God's character. Ultimately, the sermon emphasizes that this standard is unattainable by human effort alone, pointing to the necessity of being born again and relying on the Holy Spirit to fulfill these divine commands.

  • God’s True Vine
The sermon explores the theological significance of Jesus declaring Himself the true vine in John 15, contrasting this with the Old Testament view of Israel as God's vineyard. It argues that while Israel historically associated national identity, land, and heritage with divine blessing, Jesus redefines the source of all spiritual blessings as Himself alone. The text highlights that ethnic lineage, religious tradition, or political affiliation cannot provide salvation or true fruitfulness; rather, only a living union with Christ yields the righteousness and peace God desires. By citing passages from Isaiah, Jeremiah, and the New Testament epistles, the message emphasizes that believers are grafted into Christ, the true Israel, where all spiritual promises are fulfilled. The tone is instructional and corrective, urging the audience to abandon reliance on external markers of faith and rest solely in the sufficiency of Christ for their eternal inheritance.
