IFP calls for uMvoti mayor’s dismissal . The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) on Monday demanded the African National Congress (ANC) fire uMvoti mayor Thamsanqa Ngubane following revelations of the alleged R11.86-million spent by the Umvoti municipality providing security for the mayor since 2016. “The ANC has unequivocally stated that it is against corruption. These strong anti-corruption pronouncements, notwithstanding almost all the anti-corruption pronouncements made, remain just that, mere pronouncements,” said IFP national chairperson Blessed Gwala.

Ramaphosa and Buhari agree on early warning system between countries . President Cyril Ramaphosa and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari have agreed to set up an ‘early warning mechanism’ through which the two countries can share information, coordinate efforts and act to prevent any recurrence of xenophobic attacks. Ramaphosa hosted Buhari last week during a State visit, following a spate of public violence aimed at foreign nationals in parts of the country last month.

Exit poll shows tough road to form government after Tunisia election . An exit poll showed the moderate Islamist Ennahda party narrowly emerging as the largest party in Tunisia's parliamentary election on Sunday, but with only a small proportion of votes, which may make it hard to build a governing coalition. The poll by Sigma Conseil, broadcast on state television, showed Ennahda with 17.5% of votes and the Heart of Tunisia party of detained media mogul Nabil Karoui with 15.6%. No official results are expected on Sunday.

DA denounces R31.9m irregular spending by e-Government department . The main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) has slammed the department of e-Government in Gauteng province for incurring more than R31.9-million in irregular expenditure for the 2018/2019 financial year by failing to follow required procurement processes. This irregular expenditure points to the open-tender system not being adhered to, DA shadow member of the executive council (MEC) for finance and e-Government in Gauteng, Adriana Randall, said in a statement.

Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has denied that he asked for help with his taxes or that he accepted the South African Revenue Service's version of events regarding the "rogue unit".
