Indiana has the dubious distinction of ranking among the nation's Top 10 states for smoking, physical inactivity, air pollution, unvaccinated children, cancer deaths, infant mortality, and preventable hospitalizations. Need some good news? Indiana has the seventh lowest incidence of - salmonella! Clearly Hoosier lawmakers have good reason to target a long list of health woes, some of which have life and death implications to so many of our fellow citizens. Infant mortality, underage smoking and vaping, soaring insulin costs, easily detectable but often overlooked childhood afflictions, unexpected charges from out-of-network providers, and what at least one national study found to be some of the highest hospital costs in the country, are a sampling of the healthcare issues that Indiana legislators are focused on.
