For December we are doing a mashup of Christmas topics and the year 2003. To kick it off, we focus on Christmas music. Borrowing the format from fellow podcast Playlist Wars, we each created what we think is the perfect 10 song Christmas playlist. Did Giff, Pete, or Brad create the best one? How hard is it to cut down so many wonderful options to only 10?
Speaking of Playlist Wars, we have a special appearance from host Brian Colburn. He shares three of his favorite songs before we begin. Please check them out. If you like music, you'll love what they do. So roast some chestnuts by your open fire and enjoy this festive episode!

Growing up in the 80's meant you loved video games. Atari and other game systems, along with the pull to the arcade, were all the rage. In 1985 Nintendo came along and changed the game. Pete's choice for this episode is a topic near and dear to us. The NES will always be our favorite game system. In fact, Brad still has his original system and games and anytime we play it is guaranteed to be a good time.
We specifically focused much of our "homework" here to the original Super Mario Bros. game. Can we still save the Princess? To warp or not to warp? What levels are the hardest? We get into it all. We also share our favorite NES games of all time. So blow on your cartridge and play along with us.

For this episode, Giff chose the uncommon route of choosing a movie he had never seen before: the 80's ski slope racing, Howard Cosell drag racing, claymation hamburger dancing cult classic Better Off Dead. There may have been some influence by the other hosts, but Giff had heard so much about this movie he figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. Was he satisfied or disappointed?
This is also the time of the month where we share our favorite movies of 1985 overall. There are so many to choose from. Does this John Cusack classic hold up and crack our lists? Hit play now because EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!

The next installment for 1985 focuses on Dave's choice, The Breakfast Club. As 9 year olds we thought this movie would be hilarious like a 16 Candles sequel. However, we were soon sucked into a seriously dramatic film looking at the bleaker sides of teenage life and family relationships. Luckily, our lives were much happier than the ones portrayed on screen by the Brat Pack. As adults, what do we see differently now?
Written and directed by John Hughes, The Breakfast Club is just one entry in his amazing body of work. So we discuss our favorite John Hughes movies in this episode as well. After that we wrap things up with our favorite music from 1985. The Breakfast Club has a great soundtrack, so what better time cover all the great music from the same year. Can you hear us? Do you want us to turn it up??

Kicking off 1985 is Brad's choice: the original NBC Must See Thursday night lineup. We go back to a better time for network TV after The Cosby Show had revitalized NBC. Its success made hits out of both Family Ties and Cheers. Completing this magical lineup was Night Court. NBC dominated the ratings with these shows and young Brad and Pete were taking notice. Unfortunately, with no NBC, Giff was not.
We took the four episodes that aired on November 7, 1985, and we watched them all. How do they hold up today? Can we watch The Cosby Show the same way we used to? Which shows surprisingly tackled issues you'd never expect? We answer all these questions and more. We also get into our favorite shows from the time. Spoiler Alert: "Streaks on the china!" Join us at the water cooler for this one of a kind episode.

In this preview episode, we share our memories of 1985. We were young, so they are are not very detailed (especially Giff's). But we do know we were all happy little farm boys. We also banter about our choices for this month, ranging from sitcoms to movies to video games. Buckle up for a fun month with PCY.

Our Spooktacular ends with some happy nostalgia. Brad's Halloweens always revolved around the TV specials, specifically Garfield and Charlie Brown. So instead of gore and terror, we focus on light chills and friendship. Fittingly, we start with our childhood memories of Halloween. Hear about Brad's loneliness and the annual parties Pete secretly threw.
Then it's time to discuss the main events. First up is Garfield in Disguise (the original title of Garfield's Halloween Adventure). Hear how a sweet and chipper musical takes a dark turn into something unexpected. Then we move on to It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Seemingly filled with good vibes, this special also has some deeper issues to discuss underneath the surface. Please listen and enjoy. This was one of our favorite episodes to record!

The third installment of our Spooktacular focuses on two of the most beloved and well-known horror franchises out there: A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Because we are unique and don't play by the rules, we focused on the 4th installment of each. Freddy and Jason are hard to kill and good at killing, but which has the better kill scenes? What did we think of each film? Who's scarier? WTF is up with Corey Feldman? There is a lot to dive in to.
We go on to compare the two franchises using Giff's horror expertise, Brad's slasher virginity, and Pete's knowledge that falls somewhere in between. Do Freddy's one-liners put him over the top? Or does the hulking Jason win by KO? We finish this episode with our lists of favorite horror franchises of all-time.

Our second Spooktacular show centers on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Giff chose this movie as he considers it the original slasher film. Is it the greatest horror movie of all-time? Is it the worst? How does it compare the big 80's slashers? Our opinions are all over the board on this one.
After answering those questions and more, we break down the horror genre into 8 sub-genres. It turns out this was kind of a fascinating way of looking at things. We discuss our favorite and least favorite categories and name drop many many movies we consider examples of each category. Listen along if you dare...

In honor of Halloween, we are kicking off a monthlong Spooktacular! Scary movies and specials galore! We begin with maybe the most brilliantly marketed movie of all-time: The Blair Witch Project. Pete chose this movie as he remembered it being a one of a kind experience. 20+ years later, how does it hold up to repeat viewings?
But before we discuss the movie, we start our month of Halloween-themed spookiness by reminiscing about Halloweens and costumes from our young adult years. How many years in a row could Brad stuff a pillow in his shirt as part of a costume? How far could Pete's wife make him go to complete a couple's costume? Can Giff remember anything or was he too drunk? Hit play now!
