In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 48 of owner stories with Benjamin from Charlotte in North Carolina. Benjamin grew up in Los Angeles, the heart of car culture. As a kid he was into air-cooled Volkswagens. Benjamin bought his first one, a ‘67 Beetle at 14, working on it so it was sorted once he got his license. This is what Benjamin and his friends enjoyed doing, wrenching on cars and rebuilding them. A ‘hack Mechanic’ as he calls it. A passion passed on from his father.Benjamin always aspired to own a Porsche. He loved the look of the 356 and his uncle owned a black 930 and his friend’s brother’s wife drove a 911 SC, both cars he had driven in. Benjamin has always been aware how special Porsches are.

When he started working, he purchased a new VW Scirocco. This car cemented Benjamin’s love of VW’s. Many cars followed including some not so interesting commuter and family cars but also some memorable ones. These included a VW R32, ’71 Mercedes 250 coupe, ’65 VW type 3 Notchback, ’03 E39 BMW M5, ‘07 BMW M coupe to list a few.

So how did his first Porsche come about? Well, Benjamin’s wife suggested they sell their current BMW and get something that he really wanted. With no convincing needed, he decided he wanted a 993 generation 911 - air-cooled, analogue yet comfortable. At the end of 2020 Benjamin purchased his first Porsche, a ‘95 911 C2 in Aventurine Green. A dream 911 but Benjamin didn’t stop there. Since then he has also has added a 2003 Boxster S to his garage.
