Continuing our partnership with Giorgio Armani by working with leading contemporary writers to bring you original work, we present here, for the third instalment, a new piece of writing from award-winning spoken word performer George the Poet. After reading his text – 10 reasons why everyone should write – he talks to guest contributor Moya Lothian-Mclean about how the act of articulation brings clarity, closure and coordination of intent.

Our newest episode – recorded in halfway through 2021 – features Gavin Turk and Stephen Jones.

Gavin Turk is an award-winning artist who first came to prominence as part of the YBAs in the early 90s. He’s pioneered many forms of contemporary British sculpture now taken for granted, including painted bronze, waxwork and the use of rubbish. His installations and sculptures deal with issues of authorship, authenticity and identity, often incorporating images of himself, as well as iconic figures taken from popular culture and art history.

Stephen Jones is widely considered to be one of the world's most radical and important milliners working today. Since opening his first millinery salon in Covent Garden, in 1980, he has made hats for the likes of Princess Diana and Mick Jagger, collaborating with designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Claude Montana, through to his current work with Thom Browne and Christian Dior.

Together with host Tom Bolger, they discuss the myths around creativity, art and audience, and how to remain curious.

This episode features Martino Gamper, Imogen Wright and Vincent Le Chapelain. The former is an award-winning Italian designer, whose work spans exhibition and interior design, one-off commissions and the design of mass-produced products for the cutting edge of the international furniture industry. Imogen Wright and Vincent Le Chapelain, meanwhile, are the founders of Wright Le Chapelain, the independent London-based label that creates unique up-cycled and responsibly made clothing. Together with host Tom Bolger, they discuss improvising with found objects, relying on your partner for constructive criticism, and the changing face of London. 

To celebrate Port’s 10th anniversary, we’ve partnered with Giorgio Armani on a two-issue Commentary special, publishing original work from some of the most relevant writers working today. For Autumn / Winter, we present ‘In Flux’, an expansive new essay from the multi-award-winning author and issue 29 cover star Elif Shafak. She analyses sections from his recent novel The Island of Missing Trees, in turn ruminating on memory, our necessity for stories, and the precarious balance of optimism and pessimism in 2021. Afterwards, she catches up with  guest contributor and politics editor at Gal-Dem, Moya Lothian-McLean, to discuss the piece. Music by Edison Music.

Trimarchi and Farresin are co-founders of Studio Formafantasma, a design firm based in Amsterdam that’s celebrated for its innovative use of materials and incisive questioning on the way the design industry operates.

Nick Wakeman is the creative director and founder of Studio Nicholson, the iconic menswear and womenswear brand based in London whose elegant collections are immediately recognisable due to their functionality, modernity and playfulness. Merlin Labron-Johnson is an award-winning chef whose latest project is the farm-to-table restaurant Osip, situated in the heart of rural Somerset.
