About The Show
Sam, an "elderly" (30-year-old) gay man, tells the story of how he was all set to marry the love of his life in 2020 and perform a show all about his wedding. An entire, beautiful hour bragging about how it was going to be the biggest, most unbelievable wedding ever. Then, very swiftly, both the show and his wedding were cancelled. After two years, Sam is now a happily married man, having had quite a different, gloriously chaotic wedding to the one he had planned. This is a show about getting comfortable with things not going how you originally foresaw.
About Sam
Sam Lake is a stand-up comedian, writer and presenter. Sam has racked up a number of achievements, including winning Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year and Hastings Fringe Newcomer of the Year. As well as this, Sam has recently starred in Dave’s “The Comedy Guide to Life” & All4’s “The Joy of Missing Out” with Tom Allen. His writing has been featured on Mock The Week (BBC 2), Breaking The News (BBC Radio Scotland) & Newsjack (BBC Radio 4 extra). He’s also the host of the podcast “I’ve Had a Rosé, Let’s Talk About Feelings”, and regularly performs at the biggest clubs up and down the country.

April 23, 2024 Ross Gardiner - Still Laughing with Cancer.
For episode 3, Season 2 of Portrait and a Podcast, we're joined by Ross Gardiner.

Ross is a childhood friend of Daryll and sadly, this conversation was initiated by the news that Ross has been diagnosed with cancer again. After successfully supressing the disease in 2023 it's back again and deemed incurable. We recorded this episode with the intention of raising awareness around a number of significant areas; the incredible work that Maggie's do for cancer patients and their friends & family, the importance of not ignoring any aspect of your health and wellbeing, talking about difficult subjects and the importance of humour, friends and family!

Whilst this was a difficult conversation, it was filled with moments of humour! Ross and Portrait and a Podcast share the belief that if just one person benefits from this message it has been worthwhile.

Life can be incredibly brutal at times and navigating these troubles isn't always easy, however, there are organisations and people out there to help. Nobody needs to tackle any battle on their own.
