So, over the last few years I have released several punk rock themed horror fiction novels including, Boot Boys of the Wolf Reich and Punk Rock Ghost Story. I also have a short story collection called Amazing Punk Stories and my final punk horror novel People’s Park is on the way. In that time, I have co-written and recorded original songs to go with two of the books. The music was written and recorded by my old friend Rat from England.  In the case of Boot Boys of the Wolf Reich we wrote two Oi! Style songs. For Punk Rock Ghost Story, we had a tougher mission. We were doing a Blair Witch style fake trying to create a fake punk band from 1982. In this episode Rat and I talked over Zoom about the writing and recording of these songs and includes commentary as we listen to the songs.

Jeremy Robert Johnson could be considered a part of a new wave of horror to have mainstream publishing success, but he is also the first to come out of the Bizarro scene with a major hardcover release. Stephen  Graham Jones, Laura Lee Bahr, and Brian Evenson are authors who I think  walk this line that some times touches Horror, Bizarro, and fine  Literature all in the same stories. But Jeremy was a flag holder for the movement so  Entropy in Bloom and the soon to be released novel The Loop feels different.

This interview was recorded on 8/3/17  when Entropy in Bloom was released.

This interview is focused on his new collection. At the end we do go  pretty deep and ridiculous about a story in the book that I first  commissioned for a Punk horror anthology I think this part will not be as interesting unless you have a punk or hardcore scene background.

F.Paul Wilson is the bestselling author of science fiction and Horror. He is one of my all-time favorite writers, and since I read The Keep in the 8th grade I have been a devoted fan.

This is NOT an interview. In 2017 when this was recorded I was preparing to teach a class on writing horror novels at the Horrible imaginings Film Fest here in San Diego. My part of the class was about writing outlines for plot and structure. I had taken a class on the subject with F. Paul Wilson at the Borderlands Writers Boot Camp but that was not the only reason I wanted to talk with him.

Marvel has the  MCU and Wilson has The Secret History.  It spans almost three-book series, a trilogy, and several stand-alone novels and Short Stories. Starting in his novels  Black Wind and The Keep (on my top ten horror novels of all time list)  and ends in the novel Night World. That one book is the sixth novel of one series (Adversary Cycle) and fifteenth of another series(Repairman Jack). I read the whole secret history as it was in 2012, and it is one of my all-time favorite reading experiences. It is the most insanely interweaving saga constructed in fiction that I have ever seen. Equal to or even surpassing King's Dark Tower when you talk about a single author interweaving most of their work. He is at it again with a new addition to Adversary Cycle in 2020 called Signalz. (Check out his new interview on the Horror  Show With Brian Keene for details on that book)

So this not an interview, just an open discussion about plotting. Note the book Paul was working on was The God Gene, and he talks about changes he was making the day this was recorded. Enjoy.
