GoVols247's Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan break down Tennessee's 33-27 home loss to Oklahoma at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night.
The Vols saw their College Football Playoff chances snuffed out with three games to go as Josh Heupel's team lost to Josh Heupel's alma mater. Tennessee could have been out of sight early, but a slew of mistakes on offense squandered multiple opportunities for early scores and separation on the scoreboard. A missed field goal and three turnovers represented a huge swing as the Sooners led at the break despite the Dark Mode having big advantages in yards, plays run, first downs and third-down conversions.
Then the offense, defense and special teams took turns letting Tennessee down in the second half as Oklahoma took the lead in the third quarter and held off some late attempts at a rally with a fourth-down stop on a dropped pass looming large against the Vols.
We discussed what went wrong and where the Vols go from here with their Playoff hopes done.
