  • Creating Your Own Inner Sanctuary in the midst of Feeling Uncertainty & Negative feelings

In this episode of the Powered by Joy Podcast, we delve into the complexities of navigating life's transitions and all the lovely uncertainties that come at different phases of life. Drawing from personal experiences, we consider the importance of creating an "inner sanctuary"—a personal space where one feels they have a sense of choice and control, despite external uncertainties. This sanctuary involves focusing on areas of life that can be managed, such as mind, body, soul, home, and relationships, to foster peace and joy.

We explore the impact of significant life changes, like children leaving home, our bodies changing as one ages, and family dynamics. I willingly share my struggle with physical ailments and emotional turmoil during this period, sharing how I initially blamed my body and tried various solutions and regiments. However, I eventually realized the need to look within with curiosity and address stress and my emotional health. By listening to my body, setting boundaries, and adopting practices like sleep hygiene and coping tools for stress, I found ways to improve my overall well-being and took my power back to make change and help myself, no one (doctors included) was coming to wave a magic wand!

The episode includes practical tools for cultivating an inner sanctuary, including meditation, journaling, and creating a nurturing home environment. I want to emphasize the importance of connecting with others and loved ones and finding moments of play and pleasure in everyday life. These practices help shift one's mindset from feeling overwhelmed and powerless to feeling empowered and capable of making shifts in one’s life for the better. Please use curiosity to approach these shifts and an open mind, experimenting with different methods to find what brings YOU joy and peace. Remember you have the power to choose your perspective and how you perceive life and all its experiences. This means you also have the power within you to choose to respond to life’s experiences. That might mean heading home to your favorite place with your favorite tea with your favorite book. It may look like you are heading out in the mountains for a hike and listening to the birds and enjoying the fresh air after a long day at work. It’s YOUR choice!

  • Triggering Others? 3 Must Have Tools to Handle Intense Emotions

In this episode of the Powered by Joy podcast, we dive into the challenging topic of triggering others just by being ourselves. Building on last week's discussion about managing our reactions when others trigger us, this week shifts the focus to how our presence and actions might evoke strong emotional responses in others. We explore this dynamic, and consider insights and practical steps to navigate these situations with grace and compassion.

You will be introduced to the powerful concept of your “Anchor” -personal truths that help us stay grounded when we realize we've triggered someone. Using a personal story about my passion for spirituality and how it once made someone uncomfortable. This experience taught me to be mindful of my audience while staying true to my beliefs. Using this as a foundation, we cover four key steps to handle such moments:

    1. Observe-notice the emotions and reaction, be present in the moment
  • Curiosity without judgment
  • Shift your perspective
  • Anchor yourselves in truths
  • Through these steps, I encourage you to reflect on your interactions, consider the perspectives of others, and maintain your authentic self without compromising compassion. The episode is filled with practical advice and relatable stories, providing you with tools to navigate the complex emotions that arise when they unintentionally trigger others. The goal is to help everyone find more joy and maintain your commitment to your family and friends, even in the face of uncomfortable emotions. Getting more comfortable with this allows healing to become possible and a chance to grow your capacity for both the high’s and low’s of life.

Tune in to learn how to observe, get curious, shift perspectives, and anchor in your truth to handle these challenging situations with empathy and self-assurance. Whether you struggle with feeling like you are "too much" or just want to deepen your understanding of human interactions, this episode offers valuable insights and actionable steps.

  • Stop Being Triggered by Others! 3 Steps to Use it to be a BETTER You!

In this episode of Powered by Joy Podcast, we delve into the complex and often misunderstood concept of being triggered. Have you ever experienced an intense emotional reaction to a situation or person, only to later realize your response might have been a bit extreme? This episode unpacks the idea of triggers, exploring how seemingly small events can provoke powerful emotional responses.

With a personal story regarding a childhood memory that shaped my reactions to new experiences, I demonstrate how unhealed wounds can show up as an adult. We also discuss feelings of jealousy and envy, using another example of encountering someone living a life I felt envious of. Through these stories, I hope to illustrate how our triggers are often rooted in unhealed wounds from our past that could be ready to be healed.

We review a three-step process to help you manage and understand your triggers: 1-Observe, 2-Curiosity-ask questions, 3- SHIFT your perspective and next thoughts. By observing your emotional responses, questioning their origins with curiosity, and shifting your mindset, you can transform how you react to triggering situations. Let’s remember the importance of self-compassion and gratitude in this process, offering 2 bonus steps to reinforce positive thinking and fast forward your personal growth.

  • Using Joy to Cope with Stress & Negative Emotions-Part 3-Permission to Feel Joy!

Welcome to Powered by Joy Podcast! In this episode, we explore the powerful and transformative impact of choosing joy and play as a tool to cope with stress and negative emotions. Many of us feel stuck in cycles of fear, anger, frustration, or anxiety, thinking that joy and abundance are for other people, not ourselves. If this resonates with you, we are diving into two essential keys that can help shift your mindset and bring more joy into your life.

In the final part of our three-part series (make sure to listen to the first 2!), we discuss the importance of giving yourself permission to experience joy. We reflect on how our ancestors relied on community and role models for guidance and how, in modern times, social media often exposes us to negative influences. To counter this, we must actively seek out and engage with positive role models who embody joy, kindness, and abundance. By curating our social media feeds and joining supportive communities, we can surround ourselves with uplifting influences.

We also emphasize the importance of giving yourself permission to feel joy and seek pleasure. This involves recognizing and healing any internal barriers that prevent you from embracing positive emotions. Whether through journaling, seeking professional help, or connecting with like-minded individuals, taking steps to prioritize joy can lead to profound personal growth and a more fulfilling life.

Join us as we explore practical strategies to cultivate joy, connect with positive communities, and give yourself the permission you need to thrive. Remember, you are not alone on this journey. There are people who care about you, and together, we can light the path towards a life filled with joy and abundance. • Using Joy & Play to Cope with Stress & Negative Emotions- Feminine & Masculine Energy Tools-Part 2

In this episode of the Powered by Joy podcast, we explore the concept of choosing the right type of play to bring joy and explore more ways to effectively manage stress and emotions. Building on the previous episode,we delve into how aligning your play with either feminine or masculine energy can help counterbalance your current emotional state. We touch on feminine energy with qualities such as being flowy, intuitive, nurturing, and creative, whereas masculine energy is associated with structure, assertiveness, focus, and protection. Depending on one's dominant energy, different types of play can often help restore balance.

For those who find themselves in their masculine energy—often associated with stress, anger, or dominance—consider engaging in more feminine activities. I share a personal story about dealing with stress by diving into feminine energy, which meant crying extensively for far too many hours... However, I realized that a more effective strategy would have been to engage in a masculine activity like an intense workout, which always helped me feel grounded, empowered, and centered. Conversely, if one is predominantly in their feminine energy, characterized by worry, helplessness, or anxiety, engaging in masculine activities can provide a balancing effect.

We consider the importance of finding a balance between these energies through play, doing so could significantly impact how you handle stress and emotions. One suggestion is to make a list of activities that fall into both categories and to refer to it when needed, depending on how you are feeling. Additionally, a bonus tip is exploring opportunities to show acts of kindness as a powerful way to shift your emotional state, adding a layer of fulfillment and joy through service to others. Shifting your focus off yourself and onto coming from kindness towards others can be a surprisingly helpful tool.

To conclude, your suggested "homework" assignment: create a list of playful activities aligned with both masculine and feminine energies, and use it as a resource in times of stress. For example, painting for feminine and doing a boxing workout for masculine. Highlighting the importance of feeling worthy of joy and giving yourself permission to experience it, hints at further discussion in the next episode. So make sure you stay tuned next week!

  • Using Joy & Play to Cope with Stress and Negative Emotions- Part 1

This episode of Powered by Joy Podcast, we discuss coping with stress and intense emotions. We begin by reflecting on how most of us deal with stress, Perhaps numbing through activities like endless scrolling, ignoring feelings, or reacting with irritability. We explore the importance of developing healthy coping tools. I share a couple personal stories from childhood escapism through imaginative play to later transitioning to things like eating sweets and food for comfort. By becoming aware of our feelings and how we are coping we can try to use new strategies. With a few helpful questions this can become another practice and add more tools to your coping tool box.

Some of my experiences with coaching and going through the Tony Robbins' Mastery University, helped me become more aware of my stress responses and develop healthier coping tools. Wanting to share what was learned; the value of intentional actions like asking oneself the right questions (which you learn in this episode!), identifying the right activities that bring joy, peace, or happiness, and ensuring these choices do not lead to regret. Considering the importance of physical movement and play, sharing how activities like playing with my children or taking a relaxing bath helped me manage stress. I encourage you to find joy and gratitude in small moments, proposing the idea that deliberate, joyful actions can significantly impact one's emotional well-being. Over time it can also increase your capacity for more joy in your daily life.

The following episode will be diving further into specific ideas and ways to think up ways to play or feel/seek joy in those stressful times! So make sure you tune in next Tuesday!

  • Not Comfortable Celebrating Wins or Joy Even Feels Scary?

In this episode of Powered by Joy Podcast we are diving into people who struggle with feeling like it's braggy to their wins and successes? Or just not capable of enjoying and celebrating  accomplishments or blessings? If so, you're not alone. Many of us find it challenging to acknowledge our accomplishments, fearing judgment or appearing too self-centered. However, it's essential to celebrate our joys and achievements, both for ourselves and to inspire others.

Most often it seems to be two types of sharing: ego-based, which seeks to raise status and gain attention, and heart-based, which stems from genuine joy. Recently, I realized my discomfort in sharing a significant personal milestone—a long-awaited dream car —stemmed from fearing it would seem braggy or boastful. This hesitation is common, as we're often taught from a young age to suppress our joy to fit in. Often, we don’t share our joy, because we feel we don’t even have something small to feel joy about!

A powerful lesson I learned from a Tony Robbins event was to celebrate even the smallest wins with physical gestures and vocal expressions. So we discuss starting small, celebrate with yourself, then share with close friends and family, and eventually, with the broader world. Overcoming the fear of judgment and unworthiness is key to expanding our capacity for joy. The more we keep it to ourselves the more our capacity for joy contracts and shrinks! Yuck!

Here are 3 steps to get you more comfortable sharing that JOY!

    • Start Small: Celebrate everyday accomplishments with enthusiasm with yourself.
  • Share with Safe People: Begin by sharing your joys with trusted friends and family.
  • Expand Your Comfort Zone and Joy Capacity: Gradually move towards sharing in larger groups or on social media.
  • Let's make a conscious effort to celebrate our successes and share our joys. By doing so, we can lead by example and create a positive ripple effect, encouraging others to embrace and express their own joys. Maybe your small share of joy with someone else plants the seed for them to see a small moment of joy in their own life they wouldn’t have noticed before. Let's be the people who spread some joy, gratitude and celebrate life's wins and blessings more often.

  • Ditch Your Negative Thoughts- 5 Ways to STOP Your Inner Critic

In this episode of the Powered by Joy podcast, we explore the power of our inner dialogue and how we can shift from negative, critical self-talk to compassionate, love-based thoughts. I share how, during a difficult period in my life, I started looking for help to cope with life. Through the book "The Success Principles" by Jack Canfield, it taught me the importance of positive thinking and gratitude even in tough times. By focusing on our inner dialogue (that critic who often won’t shut up!), we can begin to notice and change the critical voice inside our heads, replacing it with one that is coming from love and compassion, and not fear and judgment.

We will review five practical, helpful steps to transform our mindset and make space for more joy.

    1) Set an intention each morning to listen to our thoughts using a physical reminder like a bracelet to snap upon noticing the negative voice or thought.

     2) Acknowledge the negative thoughts when they occur. If possible time-wise, also ask with curiosity, where is this thought coming from?

     3) Shift the thought(s) to more positive, believable thoughts, examples given on how to do so in the episode.

     4) Incorporate gratitude into our new thoughts, can you shift all the way to gratitude?

     5) Remember that this is a continuous Practice where we aim for progress, not perfection.

Bonus step- Try viewing this process as a game, focusing on how quickly you can catch and transform negative thoughts to a better more king, loving thought. Through these steps, my hope is that you will create more space for joy in life by fostering a supportive inner dialogue (quieting the critic) and practicing gratitude daily. Become your own cheerleader!
