  • consistency as kindness

Creating structures is a kindness. Creating consistency is a kindness. If you can hold consistency sufficiently long, then people's brains settle into that consistency space. Where things take less conscious effort. And then other things have more space. And consistency doesn't take that much space in the brain. But obligation does. Obligation is an obstruction. Consistency is a kindness.

    Recorded 11/8/2022.

  • food that makes you go "hmmm"

"Today, there was a rainbow that I forgot to mention to anyone, arcing across most of the sky, beautiful..." Fresh baked bread. Seasonings. The hot oven. A pinch of this... just enough of that... and the ways that changes in our habits and appetites can point to deeper hungers and needs.

  • More Of.

More synchronicity. More yes...and. Less feeling like Sisyphus pushing the boulder up hill. What do you want from your business as an ethical, pleasurable space? First, say what we loved, and then say what we wanted more of. And then we make it happen.

  • normalizing discomfort

There are things we need to normalize- things like water conservation, and the discomfort of growth; and there are things we need to keep from normalizing, or even de-normalize, such as drought, or the slow drains on our (and our employees) patience and energy when we have to work within settings and systems that just don't work they way they should. Sometimes running an ethical business is as simple as saying 'yes' to fixing what's broken.

Also, adjustable standing desks, and the unbridled joy of school children at play.

  • the reality of adulthood

Our adulthood in this late stage of capitalism is not the adulthood our parents knew; the markers of adulthood, if they exist at all, are, for many of us, vastly different than they used to be. But that doesn't mean we are not adults. And that doesn't mean that our businesses are somehow inferior even if we don't have all the obvious old markers of adulthood or our business do not have the same hallmarks as 'established' businesses. You are not inferior.

Also, handbills on lamp posts, and the disorientation of walking into one's regular grocery store and finding that it has been rearranged.

  • Interview: Mina Raver of Forging Fortune

Leela holds a fascinating conversation with Mina Raver, host of the Forging Fortune podcast and creator of the 2000 Days Project:

"I realized that a lot of the ideas that we have about how to really make change, simply are not made to work."

Mina Raver is a for-purpose business strategist focused on helping visionaries bring their ideas to the market so they can realize the change they want to see in the world. She’s the founder of TiCIV, inc, an impact business consulting agency, and director of the 2K Days Project, a self-paced incubator for for-purpose and impact entrepreneurs.

When she’s not building companies, you’ll find Mina playing 90’s RPGs with her husband and three children, gardening, or deep in her research.

"That's what 2000 Days is, we're going to change the world in 2000 days. In five years, it's gonna look completely different. And we're taking control of that."
