The usurpation of Palestine is a gradual, agonizing process. In this episode I reflect on seven different phases of Zionism, from mythology to genocide.
This episode is about Palestine Hijacked: How Zionism Forged an Apartheid State from River to Sea, by Thomas Suarez (Olive Branch Press, 2023). I talk about the importance of understanding the Zionist struggle of the 1940s, and how closely it is mirrored by US-Israeli operations happening in Palestine and Lebanon right now.
Also mentioned:
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan Pappe (One World, 2006).
Legacy of Violence: A History of the British Empire, by Caroline Elkins (Vintage, 2022).
Lecture by Thomas Suarez, 'Justifying Slaughter: How the Cult of Messianic Zionism Conquered the West' via the Media Education Foundation, @UMass Amherst on April 16, 2024.
First episode! Cut me some slack, jack.
I share a 1-minute fragment of an important document from 1915, know as The Samuel Memorandum. It expresses the imperialist and Biblical character of the British Zionist project in its formative era, even before the famous Balfour Declaration. Think of it as a window into how Zionism was understood at the outset, so that we can begin to understand where we are today.
I'm launching this podcast, Powers & Principalities, on October 7, 2024.
