In a culture where sex and sacrifice are driven predominantly by contract and consumption we have to stop and ask ourselves how we as Christ followers are to live. Christ calls us into covenant relationship, which means we identity ourselves first in relation to him. Our true identities are as sons or daughters of God. It is only from that place of security that we can enter into this kind of conversation or live the kind of lives that reflect his kind of love. Sex and sacrifice for a Christ follower are to be seen in light of covenant: being committed as whole persons to the good of the other, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
