Today we’re talking about another one of our core values as a church which is generosity. We want to be a generous church that reflects a generous God and, building on our value of participation, we believe that every disciple of Jesus is to grow and live into living a generous life. Now, we know that talking about generosity can be an uncomfortable topic, so in this episode we discuss why that is. We also name a couple important paradigm shifts when it comes to giving, discuss some generosity axioms and share how people can move toward living a generous life.

We are in a series right now where we are talking about our core values as a church. In our last episode we talked about the value of Spirit sensitivity. If you haven’t listened to it, we encourage you to check it out. Brené Brown says we can’t live into values we can’t name. So that’s what we are doing in this series; we are naming our values as a church so that we can live into them.
Today we’re talking about another one of our core values as a church which is participation. We want to be a church that steps beyond weekend attendance into active participation knowing that the church is the sum total of everyone’s efforts. In this episode we talk about what gets in the way of participation, why participation is essential to our formation and we highlight some of the primary ways people can participate in our church community.

Today we’re talking about another one of our core values as a church which is Spirit-sensitivity. We want to be a community that is sensitive to the movement and the leadership of the Spirit of God. Being responsive to the Holy Spirit is an idea that’s easy to agree with in theory, but it’s a whole separate thing to actually practice it. In this episode, we unpack what Spirit-sensitivity means, we look at what it looks like to embody this value, and how this challenges or critiques some of our default ways of operating as a church.

Today we’re talking about one of our most important core values as a church which is a discipleship.
Multiplying disciples of Jesus is the primary reason we exist as a church. And yet, pretty much every church would say this. The words “disciple” and “discipleship” are used in lots of churches but they are often used in very different ways.
So in this episode, we not only want to define what we mean when we talk about discipleship, but we also get into the discipleship crisis that is currently plaguing the church in the US and what that means for us as a church community.

Church as Movement by Dan White Jr. & JR Woodward

This is the first episode in our series on values and today we hope to provide a basic introduction to the topic of values. What are values? Why do they matter? How do values help us as a church community?
Naming and living into values shapes the people that we become and, as followers of Jesus, we want to become more like Jesus.
We all have values, whether we realize it or not, and we’ll look at how we can begin to identify what our values are and how we can begin to live into them.

Brené Brown - List of Values
Let My People Go Surfing - Yvon Chouinard

Welcome to Praxis. A podcast where we explore how to practice the way of Jesus in the world by living on mission together as disciples of Jesus.
Our hope is that this would be a place where we can dive deeper into topics discussed on Sunday mornings, and learn and grow alongside each other - a safe space to ask and wrestle with difficult topics.
