So this week we will read through Philippians 1-4. Taking one chapter each day. As Paul speaks to the church and encourages them on their faith walk, we will use Paul's model and do the same for our kids.
ACTION STEPS:
1) Find ways this week to let your kids know how special God has made them. Give them specific examples.
2) Plan time to have some one-on-one "shoulder time" with your kids. Shoulder time consists of activities where you don't have to make eye contact while talking. Examples: taking a walk, riding in the car, cooking together, working on a project.
3) Help your child open up by asking questions that allow for open-ended answers. (Need suggestions, message me)
4) Listen to Prayers From a Mom Podcast this week Monday-Thursday to learn more about Paul's way of encouraging others and pray with us that our kids learn to take their thoughts captive.
FOCUSED PRAYER:
Father,
My heart breaks when I see my kids hurting. I hate that they think of themselves as less than. I know how wonderfully complex you made them and I want them to see that too. I don't want them to be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. I know it's hard for me, so I understand it's hard for them too. Help me teach them what it's like to be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering their faith-filled requests before you God with overflowing gratitude. I want them to learn to lean on you and tell you every detail of their life. Then your wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard their heart and mind through Jesus Christ. Help my children keep their thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. I pray they put into practice the example of all that they have heard from me or seen in my life and you-the God of peace will be with my children in all things.
In Jesus Name, Amen!

So this week we go through each one of these strategies in R.E.A.D and pray that we create an environment in our house that everyone feels seen, heard, and understood.
ACTION STEPS:
1) Ask God to help you become more aware of your own thoughts, words, and actions. Begin to take inventory to see if they create a healthy environment for you and your family to open up.
2) Recognize that your self-worth doesn't come from others' thoughts, feelings, or actions. (If this is a struggle for you, counseling helped me.) It's hard to really hear your kid's thoughts and concerns when everything feels like a personal attack.
3) Use "I feel ______ " statements instead of "You make me feel ________" statements.
4) Listen to Prayers From a Mom Podcast this week to learn more about the R.E.A.D method and how you can use it in your house to foster healthy communication.
FOCUSED PRAYER:
Father,
I want to create an environment for my family where everyone feels seen, heard, and understood. I want my kids to be able to open up to me. Help me lead by example by expressing my feelings to them in a loving way. I want to be more like Jesus, quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Give me the right questions to ask so they learn to talk about their emotions instead of keeping it all in. Lord, you know I have a hard time keeping my opinions to myself when my kids say things I disagree with, give me the right response. Fill me with gentleness and compassion like Paul so that what I say and do empowers and uplifts my children. I want to respect and delight in my family, noticing them, showing them that I prefer them. Help me treat my family with loving concern, treasuring them, honoring them, and holding them dear.
In Jesus Name, Amen!
