Praying the Lauds - Your Daily Christian Morning Prayer

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - December 24, 2023 |

4th Sunday of Advent

COLLECT PRAYER

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord,

your grace into our hearts,

that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross

be brought to the glory of his Resurrection.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.Q

“To adore God is to acknowledge, in respect and absolute submission, the "nothingness of the creature" who would not exist but for God. To adore God is to praise and exalt him and to humble oneself, as Mary did in the Magnificat, confessing with gratitude that he has done great things and holy is his name...” (Catechism Of The Catholic Church, Nº 2097)

“Elizabeth is the first in the long succession of generations who have called Mary ‘blessed’. ‘Blessed is she who believed...’ (Lk 1:45). Mary is ‘blessed among women’ because she believed in the fulfillment of the Lord's word (…). Mary, because of her faith, became the mother of believers, through whom all nations of the earth receive him who is God's own blessing: Jesus, the ‘fruit of thy womb’.” (Catechism Of The Catholic Church, Nº 2676)

What does God expect from me, now, today, at work, in my relationships with others, and in my relationship with God?

“Mary is the docile servant of the holy Word. There were reasons to be afraid, because carrying the weight of the world, being the mother of the King of the universe was stronger than any forces of a human being. That is why the Archangel repeated to her “Don’t be afraid”; so typical of the Scriptures.” (Benedict XVI)

“‘There was a man sent from God, whose name was John’ (Jn 1:6). John was ‘filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb’ (Lk 1:15:41) by Christ himself, whom the Virgin Mary had just conceived by the Holy Spirit. Mary's visitation to Elizabeth thus became a visit from God to his people.” (Catechism Of The Catholic Church, Nº 717)

“It is intolerable for love not to see the object of its longing. That is why whatever reward they merited was nothing to the saints if they could not see they Lord. It gave Moses the temerity to say: If I have found favor in your eyes, show me your face.” (St Peter Chrysologus)

Second Week of Advent

“No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man” (Jn 3:13). Left to its own natural powers humanity does not have access to the `Father's house’ (Jn 14:2), to God's life and happiness. Only Christ can open to man such access.” (Catechism Of The Catholic Church, Nº 661)
